Apart from the patch which you dont need to install there are no other versions of Freelancer. There are some unoficial sdk packs which fix a lot of the things that Digital Anvil forgot to fix but as I said they are unoficial.

Get it from the servers web site or try here at TLR in the downloads section.the version number usually means that there's a mod running on that site.

Check your version numbers. The current version of Freeworlds which is running on most Servers is Freeworlds 1.65 (1.66 is still under development). It can be downloaded from Lancers Reactor here or from the Freeworlds home site at www.freeworldsmod.com (which is where all the development news is also located). Make sure you have a fresh install of Freelancer and that you have also downloaded the Mod Manager (the program which enables you to active mods). Once you have installed mod manager, double click the Freeworlds file which you downloaded and that will automatically install itself into the mod manager. Then open up the mod manager, select Freeworlds 1.65 and then click activate. You will need wait a short while as the Mod Manager does it magic. Once that is done, close mod manager and open up Freelancer again. You should find the splash screen has changed and your version number on the title page be changed to version 1.65 (the version number is printed in the lower right hand corner of the title screen).

If you are still stuck, there is a section on the Freeworlds main forum at the address given above which deals directly with technical issues with the Freeworld mod.

Hi CStylez, welcome to TLR and the forums!

One quick note just for housekeeping sake, you can use the edit button if you wish to add to a post, and avoid double posting.

What everyone's said here is correct. Version numbers are changed by mods. TNG mod servers show version 2.76, etc.

There are mods out there with the original game. You can edit your search for servers to list only mods with your version number, that hopefully will help you find the server for the mod, or not playing a mod, easier.

Again, welcome aboard!

there have been some problems regarding the global server lately
if everything seems right and it says its connected to the global server but no servers show up the problem is probably not at your end
if you know what server you want and its ip there are ways mentioned elsewhere in the forums to connect directly to the server
