Why are mods crashing

I have tried two different nighstalker versions and both won't work!
Nearly invulnerable shields: is a joke...It seems as if they are weaker instead of stronger... I appreciate all the responces and help I've recieved the last few days, as it has been a lifesaver.("Freelancer Addict" ;-P)
Anyone know of any big ship mods that actually work?
Thanks a bunch

It sounds like you just haven't reinstalled the game at all. Simply put - do a reinstall before activating any mods whatsoever. Delete all autosaves etc too - as they also cause crashes.

Then you should find ALL mods work

The mods only work as well as the installation instructions given with them. Take shortcuts, they crash. Simple really.

Uh, most mods run very well, at least over here on my system. I have also not had the problems people have reported with newer video cards, even though I run a GeForce 6600GT. I also use WinXP Pro SP2

Maybe I'm just leading a charmed life, of course, but I suspect that I haven't had any major problems running FL because of several things:

1. I delete savegames ruthlessly, if FL crashes. Don't be afraid to clear out the folders containing the saves if needbe.

2. I install the FL SDK 1.3 or the FL Bugfix 1.4 over the top of my modded files on a regular basis. This seems to ensure a greater amount of stability.

3. I keep my OS and drivers up to date. Especially my OS- patches to things like DirectX 9 (now 9c) have actually fixed many bugs with game engines, like FL's, and are probably one of the reasons I don't have any problems, even with a newer video card that has caused issues for others. The same thing goes for newer video drivers... but both of these things have to walk hand-in-hand. It's no good, for example, to update to the latest driver set from nVidia or ATI if DirectX hasn't been updated, and may even make things less stable.

4. I'm not afraid to reinstall FL if needbe. It only takes a few minutes, and can often fix problems with your installation. Then I reinstall the FL SDK and/or the Bugfix, to complete the update and insure stability.

5. And I always make sure that I have a virus scanner installed, keep it up-to-date, and use a spyware/adware removal program on a regular basis.

For all we know, you're having problems because your files have been corrupted by a virus, or you haven't been maintaining your computer... so make sure that you're up-to-date and protected from things like viruses, at the same time that you're trying to get the game to work. And run Ad-Aware- even if none of those things were precisely what you needed to to, your computer will thank you

Seems close to the question that you asked here
But it's no big deal to copy and paste so here's my take on using MOD's...
I've gone through this a few times. Just a few

Here is the best solution I can offer as far as playing different MOD's.
Believe me I've done this literally hundreds of times and that's no exaggeration...

Delete Freelancer... Yes that's right I said delete your Freelancer folder...

Reason being...
By deleting Freelancer instead of reinstalling you make sure that no files get left from the previous MOD especially dll files, they will crash Freelancer in a heartbeat.
Sometimes files get left behind by the uninstall routine...it happens take my word for it, so it's best to just delete your Freelancer folder and then reinstall Freelancer...
By Default Freelancer gets installed to > C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer
Delete that folder...

Next >
Delete any saved games... Yes that's right delete or move any files in the saved games folders... Saved games can cause a crash too...So they have to go...
Your saved games are located at >
My Documents\My Games\Freelancer\Accts\Multiplayer\Singleplayer
Delete or move any files in those 2 folders...Clean out the folder but you can leave the folders there, just get rid of the files inside of those 2 folders.
Multiplayer and Singleplayer

Next >
Pop in the Freelancer disk and install Freelancer again...

Next > This is optional but I don't hurt any...
Download and install the The Freelancer SDK v1.3 The SDK (software development kit) is a self installing exe file, so you shouldn't have any problems installing it...

Now install the MOD in the Freelancer Mod Manager v1.31 and activate the mod you want to use by double left clicking on the Mod file, they all have the extension flmod.

It should be working now...
If it still don't work uninstall the Mod Manager and then reinstall the Mod Manager...The Mod Manager comes with an uninstaller...

If it's still not working leave another message and someone can come up with the right answers...
