Difficulty Issues

I am brand new here. I bought FL a week ago and just finished it last night. However, when I finished the game, the only missions available in the bar or job board were Difficulty 1 or 2 (and paid less than $2500). When I was still in the game, I was doing Difficulty 17 or 18. I searched the forums, and they all suggest to do more missions. I did several of these low missions but nothing changed. I wondered if the baddies were at difficulty 2 so I flew out to a hostile base and killed over 100 mollys, outcasts etc in less than an hour (all without recharging shields or anything). It was no challenge at all. I tractored in all the loot and sold it on Pitts for over 70k. Still the missions are on Difficulty 2 and the baddies are pathetic. Am I stupid or what am I missing? Thanks for the help

mission levels are linked to your reputaion with the faction giving the mission, so low rep = low payout. Plus if taking them in the Central systems they pay less than the Border systems.

When you finish the game, you appear back in the New York system, which is one of the first in the game. If you want good payout at your point in the game, head to Rheinland.

Head for the border worlds. You can get missions for over 100,000 credits that will give you a challenge. You'll end up fighting in mine fields too, or in radioactive systems that eat up your ship while you are battling it out. If you just finished SP, you probably haven't even seen much more than 50% of the FL universe!

Think of it this way. Where you start it's easy so a new player has a better chance at surviving when his FL skills are low. As you move farther from the NY system it gets more challenging. As Puke said the Border worlds, the worlds farthest from NY, are the most challenging.

Once you conquer the AI try Multi-Player. Real people as players are much more unpredictable and challenging.

Hey, Thanks for the advice. I'll head farther out. As far as the multiplayer, I hope to get ADSL soon (I'm on 28k dial-up at the moment) so I will look forward to it. Thanks again.
