Welcome to TLR
I hope you enjoy it here, for most questions you can use the search function, I think there was a question about connecting to the global server a while ago, you can find that in the Multiplayer forum. For other stuff, just browse around

Here's a linky to the search function, simply type in connecting to the global server, you get a lot of topics an oh yea, search in the multiplayer forum

General info on playing Freelancer?

1. Wrecks

At some point, you'll come across a wreck. They show up as red crosses on your nav map. Wrecks are highly useful, some contain good weapons, others contain valuable cargo, some a combination. If you want to find wrecks on your own, without looking them up, remember that they are wrecks - ie destroyed. So don't search open space, look in asteroid fields, gas clouds, radioactive zones etc.

2. Hidden bases/jumpholes

There are a load of secret bases and jumpholes in this game that many players miss. I, for one, discovered a new base about a month ago, having played the game for over a year. Again, if you don't want to look them up, remember that they're designed to be hidden. Look again in gas clouds and asteroid fields. A good way to find them is to turn on "Patrol Routes" in your Nav Map. Where you see a number of routes join, that's most likely a base/hole

3. Best ship/loadout

If you look in the various forums, you'll find many threads about the best ship/best weapon config. The loadout threads can be helpful if you're just looking for a set, but I urge you to experiment and find the best combination of weapons for your playing style. As for the best ship threads, ignore them. 99% of the time they're a load of trash, because everyone plays differently.

4. Trading

If you want to get some money via trading, search the spoiler forum for "Trade Routes". There are a lot of threads where people have posted the routes they find most profitable, you're bound to find one you can do easily.

Have fun

When trying to enter a proxy and IP address where do I go?

If you mean manually add servers to the list, open fldirectip.hta in the EXE folder

Get friendly with the Outcasts by hook or by crook and check out Omicron Alpha. There's a little surprise up there you might think is pretty cool. Just don't shoot it. --- VH16
