I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but I recently discovered that the background characters you see standing around at some planets Commodity dealers actually function like bar patrons - they offer missions, info and bribes just like a bar-goer.

I didn't notice this at first, because I thought they were just employees hired for lugging those boxes around. Go figure.
