i have a problem...

when i try to connect to the multi-player part of the game it'll just sit there saying that it's connecting to the global server. ive disconnected and reconnected, that didnt work. ive uninstalled and reinstalled, that didnt work either. ive downloaded the patch and that didnt work either! does anyone have any ideas?

Try either the MP Forum or the server forum as I believe you need and IP address to connect to .

Do you have a dial-up connection? If so, you must connect to the internet, then minimize it, then run Freelancer. If you don't, try it anyways, it might work.

yeah, i have dial up and i am connected when i try this. i found this subject in another part of these forums, it seems that the problem would be me running zone alarm. i have my computer updated and everything but without zone alarm i get all sorts of viruses. i have spybot, ad-aware, kapersky, avg, and zone alarm on my computer. im still pretty worried about turning off zone alarm just to play a game, unless someone has any other firewalls that are good?

Turn ZA off to test, if you can then connect, you may need to find the port the game needs and alow that one.

how do you allow certain ports in zone alarm? ive had the program for a while and i havnt seen how to do that. i think ive seen which ports i'd have to allow also on the microsoft website.

Not sure on ZA, I run Nortan myself. One of the Mods here at TLR found out what to do for ZA. Worse case though, leave ZA off while playing then turn back on afterward.

see, ive thought about that but then id run the risk of getting a virus that'd trash my hd then id end up reformatting

it looks like im going to have to download an earlier version of ZA. i found in the zone alarm forums some people getting the same problem. thanks for your help

update: ive found out that if you download Zone Alarm 4.5, you can connect to the global server.
