Im tryti ng to be a pirate but whne i kill a transport I only get like 10 units out of the 40000. How do you get more cargo??
Listen to OutKast. It doesn't matter where you shoot or what you shoot. The amount of loot you get is relative to your level. You can blow up the transport when you're level 50 and you'll get craploads of loot or you can blow up the cargo pods at level 50 and get roughly the same amount. So if you're low-level, you'll get low cargo.
It's a pain being a pirate.
Buy a Freighter (Dromedary is best) and purchase some decent guns and shields for it. Go to any trade lane, and shoot it untill the trade lane is disrupted. Wait for a transport to come.(don't attack freighters) When a transport arrives, use your guns to shoot its cargo pods. Eventually, the cargo pods will explode and reveal maybe 150 or so of a commodity. Keep on doing that for all of the cargo pods. However, avoid destroying the transport. Destroying the transports will get you loot, however, your reputation with the faction will be worse... If you keep on shooting the cargo pods, the ships will turn hostile, but your reputation will not be affected.
Online, you can pirate other players by either asking for their cargo, or just asking for their money. If they refuse, you can always kill them . It's not very nice, and usually, from my experience players will refuse.
strafe!

Try this- If you c a transport, rather than just fire at its head ect, try to shoot the individual 'pods' that it carries, if you kill em all on a large transport, thats )how many pods they have full)x 150 per pod, i can fill up a modded dromadary )350 hold) in one shot with this technique. It also halps if they are docked/ing at a base, cause then they move slowly or not at all. If you need a place to get lots of cash, then head to omega 1 and the zoner base there, then kill the transports that contain engine components, provided u r freindly with the zoners, u can lans there and sell em for 1K+! (i know its a bloody spoiler, but its not very big and it sorta fits in with being a pirate)
KILL THOSE BLOODY XENOS!!!!

Untrue, pirates will drop diamonds AND cardimine. I sometimes use a modded ubership when I'm in a bad mood and I'll just go to say Buffalo or Alcatraz and just shoot everything that flies til there's a cargo asteroid field. After a while the pirates drop some of everything
