History of TLR

I don't consider myself a noob to this site by any means, but it has been around long before my arrival. Perhaps some of the mods can tackle these questions, since no one (to my knowledge) has ever put together a dedicated history of this site. So here we go:

How old is TLR?
What inspired Bargib to start the site?
Who is the highest ranking member?
Who is th oldest member?
Who has the most posts?
How many moderators are there?
Was the site built for freelancer and then had starlancer added or the other way around?

EDIT:

What was the 'Great Flame War' that I hear rumors about? Was this an actual event or just a legend?

Anyone else please add any questions you might have. I'm curious to see the background of this site since this is where i spend most of my time online.

I am not the best for this, so i won't post it myself, although i gleaned quite a bit.

one thing i do know is that the site started upon the 22nd of Feb, 2000.

The forums were up 1st April 2000 as far as i am aware (that is bargib and EB's join date!).

The site started for BOTH starlancer and Freelancer, before either had been released!! It naturally concentrated on starlancer first, but it was made for both.

For most posts/highest rank - that is Taw - who has 6503 posts and is a fleet admiral - the highest forum rank. However, there was a shift of forums, which seems to have resulted in alot of posts being removed and "stored" i think. If they were included, you would probs be looking at Wizard as top poster or something like that.

I maybe corrected, but Hellcat may have been one of the first members, originally known as Reaper i believe as well.

Now you just have to wait for someone like Wizard or Stinger - or Fear Factor - whos join dates are way back when (think wiz has the others pipped slightly).

Amount of moderators? Unsure to be honest, as Hellcat was one, but you cannot see him at all anywhere.....apart from the "wayback" machine.
Off the top of my head, and not including Bargib and EB:

Tachyon
Wizard
Eraser
Bakedpotato
Stinger
HCL Brito
Fear Factory
Mustang
Boscoe
Me
Warlord Bob (RIP)
I am sure i am missing some, but hopefully this will satiate desires till Wiz/Stinger can stroll in

*edit* - thanks Finalday

Question: Who you as l 'oldest member' do you mean as longest member or physical years of living? If the latter, which it seems what you mean, that could be interesting.

So, taking it that is what you mean. I shall start off by saying I doubt if I am the physical years oldest BUT should be up there at 53 years & 8 months.

NEXT!!

Nah, they got left behind in the old Solar System. Wonder why they didn't build a sleeper ship too. Did they get overrun in Starlancer???

Maybe I'm getting mixed up but wasn't Mad Dog a mod?

There was some guy who joined up shortly after Freelancer hit the shops who claimed to be in his late 60s or 70s. IIRC he had some trouble with using a mouse rather than a joystick due to joint problems

mad dog wasn't a mod as i recall he re-appeared in a thread not too long ago i think he was a commander probably due to the archiving of the posts

Mad Dog's highest rank has been Vice Admiral, but due to the purge many of us lost a lot of postcount (including me). That's why Mad Dog is a Commander right now. Wizard made the rank of Port Commodore at his peak and then he became a Moderator (he never made Fleet Admiral). I myself also made Port Commodore or maybe Rear Admiral at my peak (can't really remember) and then I became a Moderator as well. The first ever Fleet Admiral was Tachyon, but shortly after that honorably title he became a Mod. Tawakalna is the second ever Fleet Admiral.
