New to the boards & I have some questions

Hello board, I've tried reading through quite a bit of the posts here but haven't exactly found what I was looking for. I downloaded the mod manager and that works great. But it's the mods I'm having troubles deciding on. I don't want to use mods that change the theme of the game (Star Wars, Star Trek, Slider's etc.), what I'd like is:

Mods that open up new worlds to venture to.

Mods that allow the purchase of freighters (I tried the Mancer's Star Wars mod but I didn't like it). I don't use fighters, I like going the freighter route.

Mods that allow the NPC/AI to do more...

And only mods that are in clean working order. The Mancer's Star Wars mod didn't allow the ships to be seen at the dealer, or at the launch pad, and they didn't look to good from the turret view.

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, but I've searched through the forums for answers and didn't find what I was looking for.

Also, I don't play games online much but I'm find myself with awhole lot of free time coming up and I'll be stuck in doors for a large portion of it. I'd like to play an online sci-fi RPG if there is such a thing (but not the Star Wars Galaxies one). Is there a Freelancers online game that is run continuously? I'm new to online gaming so pardon my ignorance.

Welcome to TLR

Welcome to TLR. Hope you enjoy yourself here.(and you will as long as you behave)

Anyways, I recommend the "Evolutions 1.28" mod. I only played a bit of it, but from what I can gather it's almost exactly like original FL except:

1. Completely new ship customization system. Change your ship's power generator, scanners, tractor beam, and much more.

2. All original FL ships have been rebalanced. Light Fighters are now actually faster, VHFs slower, ultra-powerful weapons are removed or extremely hard to get, etc.

3. AI is harder. Their shields will now recharge, and they'll use shield batts as well as nanos. Add the rebalanced ship stats and you've got one difficult AI to fight.

4. Tons of new ships. Some of them are totally new, while others (such as new house ships) use the same concept and designs as original FL ships.

5. EVERY ship in the game is now playable. Transports, Gunboats, Battleships, etc. You name it, this mod has it. But unlike other mods of this kind, the big boys are incredibly expensive.

6. A bunch of new factions and systems, but I'm not sure what they are.

7. Lots of new commodities, the most noticeable are humans(ranging from ejected enemy pilots to tourists) which you take from one destination to another.

Shame that half the new systems don't fit then.

If the systems that are in 3D don't fit, well - thats because we explored ideas, and tried out new things. Only 2 systems are in 3d - the rest aren't.

As for whether the others fit, thats up to the players themselves, so if you don't like them, suggest what changes we can make to make them "fit" better....since that is what we ask for.

Criticism is useless until its made constructive.

If I use evolution will I have to start over again or can I continue on with my saved game?

IIf I have to start over again I'm not interested. I'd rather just add on planets/systems/places to go to my current game.

I just started playing the mod for real, and the only real complaint I have is that in the beggining it takes a million years to kill enemies.

I think you will find that all mods that do what you want will require you to start over again.

Thanks, we are working on this. We are slowing down the low level ships for rogues/xenos to make them less "flighty" and will also reduce the regen on the low shields SLIGHTLY as well. The main problem seems to be that they move so darned quick - so we will hopefully have rectified that one

Chips two words.

Planet Unity

It doesn't fit at all with anything, nor does Alutia and the Frontier is pointless. Also Romanov is just silly.

The frontier systems are not for this version strictly speaking, its so people explore, but there are plans for them . We just don't have the stuff ready yet.

As for Ramanov being silly, like i said - criticism is pointless unless its constructive, otherwise its just moaning .

So in what way?

Biggest complaint, well - i lie, third biggest complaint is the frontier systems, so i will do something with those. But i thought people liked Unity, so if not - i woudl like to know, but just hearing a "its silly" doesn't help!! details would be kewl!

For some strange reason, I can activate mods in game. I just start up MM during play, activate, alt-tab back, then save. It only works on my XP comp though...must be a freak PC.
