Who said Newtonian physics are a major part of the game? Newton's Second (or first, I mix them up sometimes) Law of Motion says, "An object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force". What happens when you turn off your engine in the game, hmm? Your ship stops moving.

Actually, if you use the engine kill you keep on moving in the direction you last pointed to.. Just an FYI..

Don't use the kill engine button myself (don't need it actually). When you turn after pressing it, does the ship's vector (direction of movement at a speed) change? If so, there's a violation right there. Also, turn down your throttle and you stop moving forward. For accurate Newtonian physics you would either have to have retro rockets to counteract your velocity or you would have to turn your ship in the opposite direction of your movement (with the engines off during the turn) then accelerate until you stop.

Such a dense material would be hard to destroy. In fact, for all intents and purposes it would be horribly inefficient. It would be a huge feat just to get the thing to move. Of course, if that were the truth, then you could keep the planets from moving. Maybe that is why they never orbit.

The Earth's spin has nothing (or at least very little) to do with its gravity well. According to Einstien (and no one has yet come up with a better theory) gravity results from the curvature of space time caused by matter - the denser/larger the object the greater the curvature (for a detailed explanation ask Stephen Hawking).
Newton put forward the original theory of gravitation - which noted an attraction between objects, he didn't like the notion but did not have any means of doing other than observing the effect.
Newton's laws of motion are relevant with regard to the simulated gravity produced by rotational forces in, for example, a spinning space station. In this case you are in fact being flung outwards, in a straight line, but your path is blocked by the decking beneath your feet - this is inertia and centripetal force, not gravity.

Means of maneouvre/gravity simulation aside the capital ships in this game could really use some Freespace2 style beam weapons. Or at the very least some weaponry thats more effective than harsh language.

I thought this topic was because the battleship sucks not about gravity.....
