Battleship

Ok, I hate these battle ship mods, can someone please give me a good BattleShip that has the Movability of A Starflier? or a Humback?

.... y'know, I don't think that in Newtonian physics, Battleships in space, or in water for that matter, are physically able to turn on a dime like a fighter can. Why? Bigger mass! Besides, a battleship mod that could let a capital ship turn like a fighter would be lame.

there is no mod that improves the handling of the battleship well not to my knowledge anyway

You can ov course, mod the segment of the ship arch to read this amount to get close responce time.
steering_torque = 18000.000000, 18000.000000, 58000.000000
angular_drag = 15000.000000, 15000.000000, 35000.000000
rotation_inertia = 2800.000000, 2800.000000, 1000.000000

Who said Newtonian physics are a major part of the game? Newton's Second (or first, I mix them up sometimes) Law of Motion says, "An object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force". What happens when you turn off your engine in the game, hmm? Your ship stops moving.

Also, these people have artificial gravity. Raise the pull of gravity on one end of a large ship at one end (have a chamber without people for this or something) and raise the pull in the Opposite Direction at the other end of the ship. It'll turn on a dime. All this involves is saying which way is down at a couple locations. The bigger the ship, the faster the potential turn, within reason. Turn too fast and metal stress could be a problem.

The same applies the the inertia. Raise the gravity really high with the bow of the ship as down, super acceleration. Raise it at the stern and get super deceleration. Do it on any of the sides (port, starboard, up, down) and get sliding.

But the final point is even more basic. At all times remember it's just a game. The reason for it's existence is for you to have fun. If you think you would like to fly around in a garbage truck painted bright yellow with purple spots, make it and go for it.

Gravity is a force that exists BETWEEN objects. You cannot 'raise' gravity to increase turning speed - i have never read such a strange idea. Totally incorrect.

As for objects in motion etc, this could be true - but launch something with the speed those ships travel at into space and they will eventually stop. Space isn't a total vaccum, also their are gravitational forces and even particle streams that would have effects. Infact, FL has more physics in it than you think

1. Artificial gravity, remember? Gravity source/cause at the bottom of the space, cancelled out at the underside of the area by another artificial gravity field, gravity effect/pull against the top of the space (as in ceiling). Or gravity generator makes field at set distance in front (or side or whatever) of the ship, causing ship to be pulled towrds the field, ship moves forwards. As ship moves forward, generator is moved forward (obviously). As generator moves forward, field moves forward, pulling ship forward... Result: acceleration. (Read david Weber's Path of the Fury for a more thorough description, or read it because it's a great book. )
2. Like I said, it's a game. That means real physics are optional.

Let me re-itterate what gravity is. its a force between two objects of mass. There is no such thing as artificial gravity, or gravity simulator, its either the force of gravity between two objects or it isn't!

In fact, to be able to turn, you would need more thrusters on a ship.

The actual idea of artificial gravity is that of centripedial force, where the ship exerts a force on the people inside.

Or the ship somehow has the ability to generate gravitons going an a certain direction, thus creating 'artificial' gravity

The earth has gravity due to its mass and the speed it is turning.

If you spun a shuttle in space fast enough,it woyld create some gravity but you would have to spin it so fast that the ship would fall to pieces.

In theory, if you built something as big as earth (i know its far too big a thing to build) and spun it at the same speed as the earth AND put it in the same orbit as the earth then it would have the same gravity level as the earth!

Also, this is totally unrelated, i was just in Corfu for two weeks and near the villa where we were staying there was a water sports thing (too small to be a company). They had a small little shelter on the rocks in the bay of Kalami and from there people coulbook things like water ski-ing, wakeboarding etc.
When you were due to go do the stuff you booked they brought you over to a plontoon floating on Polystyrine!

I had an idea of making polystyrine houses! You could have a hard transparent plastic shell on the outside but that would ruin the fun. Just think......FIRE FIRE!
JUMP THROUGH THE WALL! or the fire would melt your walls. Or if you want a new window, smash a hole in the wall! The walls would stand up to rain! As the plontoon was in the middle of the water and the polystyrine was underwater and it didnt fall to bits at all!

Battleships aren't designed to be fast anyway they are designed to be powerful and act as big cannon fodder which can fight back.
And having a battleship turn like that is just unreal and completely useless in terms of fairplay , so it would be cheating to make a ship turn like dat

The guy with the mod prob

@Chips You know artificial gravity is fake, I know artificial gravity is fake, but the People Who Made The Game don't seem to know artificial gravity is fake. 'Dem battleships and stations ain't spinnin' bub. And you always see Trent Walk to the bar, Walk to the Equipment guy, and so on. Not Float to the bar, etc.

simple solution, the ships contain extremely EXTREMELY dense matter at the "bottom" of their hulls (remember, there's no up in space). The extreme mass of the stuff (think mars or earth stuffed into the bowls of the Missouri) would generate sufficent gravity. Remember, these people can bend space-time (jump gates), so messing with gravity would be child's play. --- VH16
