The Sirius System, Does it Actualy Exist?

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

Since we have no clue as to how long the Sleepers were in flight we cannot tell WHERE they ended up. They probably had a course that was near Sirius or a codename, so that the Coalition wouldn't be waiting or following.

Or they determined where the nearest Earthlike planets were and headed for them

Well with the nav map saying "sirius sector" then are we to assume this means they did arrive at siruis but perhaps they occupied a large aread around it, being the "sector" around the two stars?

Then where IS Sirius in the game?

Post Sun Jun 06, 2004 5:12 am

Keep in mind that this is a GAME
Does it really matter where they ended up? We've answered the original question: does the Sirius System exist?

If it's in the game at all, it would have to be a system with binary stars, because that's what the real Sirius system is. Somewhere like Tau-37, maybe. Although I don't think any of the stars in binary pairs anywhere in FL are white dwarfs

Yes, there should be all sorts of different star types here. We had a nice long discussion on it nearly a year ago I think, just search for posts by me.

Also, it wouldn't really be the "Sirius system", it should be (and I refer to it as) the Sirius Sector. This way, it would refer to a region of space where a cluster of stars reside. A system would be like sol, which is just plain wrong for the purposes of Freelancer. Yoop.

True Pinkie, it is more of a 'sector' than 'system'. You are basically looking at the tune of somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 system stars or so. All having differant characteristics and sizes giving us a large cut of the galaxy. I know everyone says 'its just a game', but alot of authors when they write a book, do a little research into the background if they are going to write something about the past for example. One would hope whoever created the storyline would have done that too............

Yah I know, I posted the thread when I was tired & wasn't thinking to Clearly...

actualy, I'm begining to think the thory that it was a codename to keep the coalition from finding them may be right, the Sirius Sector looks an awfull lot like part of the Orion Nebula.

Lol. This makes me think of that screenshot on the homepage with the caption about the system not looking like Manhattan.

"It was two lefts, a right, another left . . . Hey, this doesn't look like Sirius . . ."

Do we really know how long the sleeper ships travelled? They could have ended up on the other side of the galaxy for all we know. How the ships themselves survived such a trip would be interesting to find out.

The ships aren't human, they don't die after however many years. So long as fuel lasted, they could carry on going. They would undoubtedly have been checked and checked again for possible errors that could lead to system faliure, with a project this big

Remember that the Hispania was supposedly lost though: went off-track

Only because there was a Coalition saboteur aboard. Wasn't a natural error.

Here, take a look at this and see if it helps in locating where they may have gone.
