The Sirius System, Does it Actualy Exist?

Just got a intresting comment from a friend I was showing Freelancer to.

He Asked if the Sirius System actualy Exists, or if it's simply something that the Developers dreamed up...

Personaly, I don't know, & can't find hardly any Non-Freelancer Related pages on it.

Anyone know the answer to this question?

To me, It looks a little like part of NGC604..

The star Sirius is one of the nearest stars to our own

The nearest is Proxima Centauri I beleive.

Sirius A and B are the 7th and 8th nearest stars to us. I don't think the Sirius Sector has anything to do with the stars we call Sirius, as they would surely be labelled somewhere, but you never see any star called either Sirius A or B. Maybe the ships simply set a course roughly pointing at the stars, and just travelled for however many years. That would explain the name

i think the star in the new york system is possibly either sirius A or B as new york is at the sector core

Ask Kimk, I think he posted a pic of the Real sirius system a while ago.
It does exsist. Maybe a quick forum search can reveal it.

The star in NY isn't either of the Sirius stars, because it's a Medium White. The Sirius stars are White Dwarfs

Well I guessed from the fact that every location in FL is named after a real place that siruis probably did exist, but I didnt know about it being the brightest star. That does make sense I suppose, the whole going to start again, hope and light and everything.

Well here's the thing: Sirius A and B are both just single stars. But the Freelancer Sirius has many stars

You wouldn't expect the entire sector to have only two stars though. A sector is a group of several star systems, one of which may or may not be Sirius A/B in FL. I still think they just plotted a course and let it run. In the intro, it says "they headed for Sirius", so it's plausible that they over/undershot
