Needless Accusations?

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

Like i was saying, why so many morons accuse people of this is totaly baffleing to me.
Do they get some kind of Sadistic pleasure out of it or something...?

9 out of 10 people have "Legit" versions of games, & the ones who download them usualy buy them if they like them, & delete it if they don't like it.

Playing a mere Demo does not in any way give an accurate representation of a game anymore, many developers only use the best part of the game for Demos, you can have a game with a Great Demo, but the rest game itsellf can be utter crap!

Personaly, if somone decides to use a downloaded copy as a "Try before you buy" I'd think it would fall under "Fair use" and an extra Incentive for Games Developers to develop "Good Games" rather than a "Good Demo" for a Overall "Crap Game".

Just my $0.02....

Quite simply, I bought FL when it first came out. I'm hardly rich, but the price of the game didn't put me in the poor house. Probably saved me a lot of money by keeping me home many evenings!

p.s. Wish I could find one of those cheap copies of Starlancer. But they're not available where I live.

I found a copy of Starlancer with the strategy guide (with the WC Universe map inside!) for $10 at a used game store. I suggest you try those places, you may just hit the jackpot...

Ok chips, one member of lancers using cracked versions of Freelancer:
Darkstone

He was also the one that told me Microsoft's sales are bad and that for every one legit copy of Freelancer, there are about ten cracked games. I know this cos he told me and he knows me in real life! Care to "rubbish that up".

Well, with the supply of irrefutable evidence that you have presented, i guess i have no leg to stand upon. I bow down to your sources that you illustrated, and recognise that i cannot refute the arguements now i know the facts here. The figures and representation you show have totally beat my arguements down without room for doubt at all!!

By the way, be sure to tell everyone you meet from now on that you have spoken online to the King of England.......

p.s- i don't have to spell out what i mean do i?

PB, eBay has plenty of copies of Starlancer, starting at a penny (plus shipping).
I LOVE EBAY!

Weather any one person tells you this info, where do they get the stats? Unless you servey every user of FL, you will never know. There are more honest people than dishonest. People who break laws, fudge on reports, guesstimate things to be bad, and admit to the same, would you trust the results? No matter who makes games, if the numbers look right, then they make new games. Final Fantasy is a favorite of mine, but if I judged by the numbers on store shelves to see if it was a good seller, I wuld be disapointed. But they are still making newer FF games. All companies that make games, are in it to make a profit, thats business. If I don't make a profit at what I do, then I stop it and do something different. Game companys are the same. Give MS and DA time. If they see a market and profit there, they will make fl2. Untill then, mods will do while I wait.

It has been brought to my attention that certain parties in this thread are making gross generalisations based upon "evidence" that cannot be supported, due to the reticence of Microsoft's and DA's financial departments. In addition, said parties are also impugning the entire FL community by arguing that the "statistics" that they have presented "prove" that a large percentage of people who play Freelancer are doing so with illegal copies. Furthermore, said parties are also citing evidence from another third party who, although a regular member of TLR does not, to my knowledge, have access to Microsoft's/DA's profit/loss statements concerning sales of Freelancer.

Until more conclusive evidence is presented, said parties are not going to be able to convince the FL community that a large percentage of them are in fact, software pirates, as the asssertions of said parties are based upon unsupported second-hand evidence, and supposition. Additionally, said parties seem to be implying a cause and effect relationship that is not supported by the facts; that is they argue that FL profits were low, and that the proportion of people with copies of FL is far too high to correlate with sales of the software in question. This is a rather myopic view, as there could be many reasons as to why sales/profits of FL were lower than expected (if indeed they were), and why there is a large proportion of people who play FL online.

Basically it boils down to this; we do not have access to the information concerning FL's sales, and therefore it would be an exercise in futility to make such assertions, based solely upon assumptions of sales figures that we do not, and will never have access to.

@magnuscar:So, someone goes with the advice of just ONE person and he thinks that we all pirate Freelancer. Stop it, you've got me in stiches, I'm laughing so hard. If you'd actually use that muscle you call a BRAIN, and actually do some RESEARCH, you'd find that Microsoft actually did fairly well with Freelancer, sales-wise. They weren't groundbreaking, but they were respectable. I bought the game legitimately a month after it came out.

I was trying to be more subtle Mee, but your "in your face" type of posting also works .

@Esky: Sorry, I'm not very subtle when it comes to people being blatantly STUPID.
I'm glad you approve of my methods, though. Maybe if magnuscar actually pulls his head OUT OF HIS ASS and starts THINKING, maybe we wouldn't have as much reason to make fun of him.
