Needless Accusations?

Needless Accusations?

This may be a little off toppic, but I'll try & keeep it as Freelancer Related as possable.

After seeing the Closing post in the Freelancer Sequil Petition Sticky, I got to wondering again about a certan thing that never ceases to Annoy me to no end...

Why do so many games board members, lump everyone (except themsellves) into the "Software Pirate" catagory?
IE: Automaticaly "Assuming" that practicaly every member pirated whatever mentioned program/game, instead of buying it.

Please, Humor me on this, I'm Curious.

Why is Practicaly Everyone labled as a Software/Game Pirate on many places around the Internet untill/if they can find a way to proove otherwise...?

FYI: I got Freelancer in a Bargan Sale, would have liked to have found Starlancer as well, but no one has it, so I'll just have to wait for a Sequil.....if there is one....

& to try to keep this on topic & Spoiler Free, anyone find it strange how the Nomad sponsored Laws that were put in during the SP Storyline are still in effect after you complete sp?

Ones such as Allien Artifacts being illegal to posess..

FYI it wasn't board member staff that made that comment, it was some numb nutts. Perhaps you should read it again, and check once more. You will notice no moderator/admin status under his name, therefore please don't make a post that is so incorrect in its facts as to display this as our views - because its not only misleading, but totally fabricated as well.

Thankyou

No Prob, Sorry.

Original edited.
I'm still not used to the layout/style of this board.
(what board software does it use anyway?)

Yeah, I am a dumb nut and damn proud of it! Wouldn't wanna be a member staff thingy. I mean "Ooladedah You have a couple of thousand posts on a web forum. Arent you cool! Don't cry about the fact that a profit seeking business wants to make money and wont make a sequel so you can rip them off with a crack!."

Any chance of a Translation of that?

Back to your original statement and the questions at the end, possestion of artifacts probably isn't illegal, but smuggling them is. I'm sure there is a tarriff or something of the sort that needs to be paid that you just "happened" to forget. Also, I'm sure they have to be checked out thuroughly (imagine another one of the artifacts just lying in someone's living room) further adding to the cost. Whole organizations (like the junkers) engage in artifact smuggling as a basis of income, providing cheap artifacts to desperate citezens, for a price, both before and after the story line. And not all laws stayed in effect, I don't think Rheinland continued to kick out kusaris after the conflict. --- VH16

magnuscar - needless to say, you made totally unfound accusations about EVERYONE - which is just dumb. I said numb nutts, but since you called yourself dumb, then i will merely echo your proclaimation of being dumb.

You accused everyone without any proof or any form of knowledge. Your post above highlights the same thing - i don't know what your issue is, or your problem, but calling everyone thiefs isn't nice. However, you cannot accept the numb nutts commet.............pot calling kettle perhaps? nah - not really, but perhaps food for thought. Treat others with respect, and perhaps they may respect you as well.

I tend to agree with Chips, I bought the Freelancer game when it first came out for quite a pretty penny. Accusing everybody of piracy is either dumb or arrogant, both of which are bad traits.

i know that i myslef and i have bought the game along with my brother who got it b4 me by buying it and it looked fun and i bougt it also and i am very pleased and distressed of course about no information about a sequel but so are we all and he definetly needs a lesson in manners IMHO send him to tranquility bay or is that too harsh.(u guys ever even heard of the place???)

@ Zedicus

In reference to the availability of Starlancer and Freelancer, I know that WalMart now carry Starlancer as one of their $10-or-less games (you know the ones, that come in little more than a cardboard sleeve over the jewel case, or even just the case shrink-wrapped). Freelancer is now retailing at $20 at the neighborhood WalMarts also (S.W. Pennsylvania).

EB Games have had original boxed Starlancer sitting on the floor of their bargain section for $4.99 for ages, so it's worth checking them before you pay out $9.96 or whatever Walmart price it at, as you'll get the printed manual and keyboard guide in the boxed version.

In the UK at the moment, No Wally worlds for 5000+ miles, but I might try to see if a local game shop could order it...

Ok, Chips, this aint just my opinion. Many of my friends, who are respected members of TLR have this opinion also. In addition, my proof is that Microsoft has made a loss producing and selling Freelancer, even though it is popular. Also, the number of people on Freelancer servers exceeds global sales of the game. You may say that this is because many people have more than one character but many people also don't play the game online.

Post Sun Jun 06, 2004 2:30 am

I am affraid that since i have not sat and counted all the individual IP addresses on the servers that might not even be connected, baring in mind that poeple do log off and log on at different times of the day........i simply refuse your comment about how we all illegally own the game.

I am flabbagasted at how you can make this assumptions here - please provide links to the amount of sales worldwide of the game, how many sales of second hand copies there have been (yes, you can legally buy a second hand game you know!! Ergo, two players), how on earth they counted all the players in the world on the game, how this impacted on microsofts actual game sales due to theft, how you can calculate the losses, the cost of production of a game for 4 or 5 years including the advertising and everything else.

Once you can provide all this, along with a cast iron method of how they found out how many individuals played online (please provide proof and links), then maybe i will believe that it is the sole reason for the game not getting a sequel. Furthermore - link THOSE poeple who are the ones without a real copy to THIS site, and then i will start to accept your terribly insulting accusations that most have not bought the game. Right now, i just read someone who is speaking from the top of their head with no flippin idea of anything else. heck - you make accustations about something, then i am calling your bluff completely and rubbishing your claims UNTIL you provide the evidence to back it up.

Until then, please drop this diabolical topic, as its really insulting to everyones intelligence that people can make such sweeping statements. It would be like saying there are some thieves in the town/village/city you live in, therefore YOU are a thief as well. Maybe you might start to understand how insulting what you have been saying is now.

To say we own illegale copys is insane. I own 2 legitiment copys. the first was scratched, so in order to keep playing the game, I had to buy a second copy. I would venture to say the majority own their copys.
