About commodity quantities

I've understood that "1 piece" of some commodity is one ton. So that a rhino for example can carry 80 tons of something. What about those trains then? When I scan them I see that there are like 5x13000 pieces of stuff, that can't mean 65000 tons? How much do those actually carry? And if you blow up that train there is no way you can steal all those.

There has been discussion before about how much cargo those big transports actually carry. The number you see when you actively scan one of those ships is certainly misleading. They do not drop that much when they get blasted. Nor could they conceivably be carrying that much due to their limited size, etc. But that's another discussion.

It has been my experience, and I'm sure I'll be corrected (read: flamed) if I'm wrong, but those transports usually drop about 150-200 units of the commodity when destroyed. So even though the scan shows that they are usually carrying about 8 million "tons" (units, whatever), it would appear that 99.9975% of it gets destroyed with the ship. A mere 0.0025% of the cargo manages to survive the explosion and floats around in space, waiting for you to tractor it in and make some quick cash.

It could be something like 800,000, not 8 million, so adjust the figure accordingly, but I think you get the idea.

Let the corrections begin.

Yep, I think 150-200 is correct, or at least a "something like" value. I've blasted trains and armor transports a couple of times and that is how much I actually get. But it's good that you wouldn't be able to get em all. The game would be ruined if you could.

Even if you can't pick it all up, think of how much you mess things up for that company though, all that cargo possibly lost in space.

Trent: It's not the time, it's the sides that keep changing.
