Trading info

Hey all,

Just got back into FL again after spending too much time playing BF1942. Sorry about that.

Here's a question that probably sounds like a noob question, but you're going to read it anyway. Is there a way to trade map information with other players in MP? I am pretty sure there isn't, but thought I would pose the question anyway. I know that NPCs often offer to sell information on a particular station, planet or jump hole, so I was wondering if it was possible for players to do the same.

At the very least, it would be nice to be able to provide all the base information to a player who has explored the entire universe but needed to create a new character for whatever reason. Prevents them from having to fly around and visit every single base and find every single jump hole again.

And again, obviously all the actual information and coordinates are freely available on the internet (and this site), but the idea would be to be able to transfer the actual information in-game, so that commodity prices, jump hole locations and so-on actually show up on the other player's map.

Again, I'm pretty sure it's not possible...but it never hurts to ask. Wait, scratch that...in this forum, sometimes it DOES hurt to ask. I hope this isn't one of those times...

A player who's been everywhere doesn't really need the map info, he should know where to go, surely? And as for commodity prices and so on, he should at least remember the important prices and where they are

While I haven't been EVERYWHERE yet, I have certainly been to all of Kusari, Liberty, Bretonia and Reinland space, and I still can't remember where everything is. I guess I am thinking more for the player who doesn't play often enough to be able to remember where everything is, or someone who prefers to have all the information available in their NavMap for easy reference.

I'm not disputing that the information is readily available. It's not the info that I'm really talking about. It's the ability to transfer the visual representation of that information to someone else's NavMap. A way to prevent them from having to visit every base again in order to have that info show up in their NavMap.

So, am I correct in assuming this is impossible to do?

You are correct. You cannot transfer any knowledge from one character's map to another character's map.

You CAN get in good with the sysadmin and convince him to enable the "see all things" in FLSO. Thus you will have everything possibly visible in your maps. But as Darkstone said if you've been there once or twice, you should have some idea later on where everything is.
