What year is it????

This is a free discussion forum on Freelancer. This is the place to discuss Freelancer issues NOT covered by the other boards!

Actually it's quite simple. Starlancer (the prequel to Freelancer) was set in the year 2160. That's when the war between the Eastern Coalition and the Western Alliance began. In the FL intro movie they say that the war between the Coalition and the Alliance already endured for a century (100 years), so it would be around 2260. Then the sleeperships were launched to escape the war and finally they arrived in the Sirius sector. FL's story begins in the year 800 AS, what probably means something like After Settlement (though this has never been confirmed).

So normally you would say it's about 800 years after the sleeperships left the Sol system, which was in the year 2260 and it would now actually be the year 3060. But, the sleeperships had people in Cryo-Pods, so if the trip would only take a few days to the Sirius sector, people wouldn't have to be in Cyro-Pods (hibernation) now would they ? So i think it's save to say that the trip took many years and we actually don't know what year it really is, because we don't know how long the travelling to Sirius took...

Due to its gravitational pull, you've just been sucked into the vortex called The Lancers Reactor, from which there is no escape...

I'd have to guess that they called it Sirius because they were pointed TOWARD Sirius, but they probably overshot and went a lot farther. Remember that FTL drives are already available in SL, and judging by how it only took a few seconds to get from Neptune to Saturn, it would not take very long at all to reach the real Sirius, or the Crow nebula for that matter. Assuming the trip took years at FTL speeds, and allowing for technological advancement 100 years AFTER SL, they very well may be in a completely different galaxy. Notice that they never mention our galaxy by name in FL, nor do they refer to the position of Sol, or even show a complete galactic view.

They probably went billions of light years over the marker.

Either way, we are looking at 800 years after the 23rd century. How accurate do we need to be.

And if we are that far in to the future, you have seen the clothes people wear, where the hell did trent get that jacket!!??

Just a question

Col. Sanders: Sir, hadn't you better buckle up?
Dark Helmet: Eh, buckle this! Ludicrous speed...GO!!!

Really, how many people on freelancer are walkin around in jeans and an old naby t-shirt? I would kill for a jacket like Trent's that thing is sweet!

I guess in a thousand years people are more sophisticated.

It sure beats the costumes the rest of the world is wearing. All except for some of the pirates; they know how to dress comfortable. I'd take a worn jacket and a pair of jeans any day.

Mmm order's uniform aren't too shaby either. It looks armor plated. Kress dress also looks normal. The rest of the universe is a bit "clowny" looking if that's such a word.

I believe a better term would be "1950's future." Kinda like something your parents would have watched on the saturday morning lineup...

For fun some time, get hold of a video copy of the old Flash Gordon sci-fi series from around the 1930s. It's great! A friend showed be some of them, and I got hooked!
