The buttons for weapon groups aren't set by default, you have to set them yourself from the options screen. What you do is activate certain weapons, press the assign button, activate different ones, press assign, etc etc. Then when you press the activate button, you'll have only those weapons switched on

Even though I've playe dfor ages, I've never needed to use weapon groups.

Corsair likes to like refer to himself in the 3rd person.

If you have two different speeds of weapons on your ship, firing them all at once would be a waste because only one set would hit, with this you can toggle between them as required

I never really needed to use them either. Generally I have four weapons I use all the time (usually a bunch of Reavers, MkIIs if I've got Buckshot guns loaded, a combo of MkIs and MkIIs otherwise), and just two that I switch on when I need them (either two Buckshots or extra Reavers). It only takes a couple of seconds to activate or deactivate two extra guns, so I never really used the groups.

Ive never really used wepon groupings, neva really thought i would want to use them.
I tried them out soon after reading this thread, quite fun, i think i might use them a bit more now.
