Freelancer Online

Are there any plans for a Freelancer Online game?

I currently enjoy both EVE Online and multiplayer Freelancer.

I enjoy the diversity and quantity of people on a single server in eve as well as the number of star systems (a galaxy).

I also enjoy the fact that in Freelancer, your success is reliant upon your ability as a pilot, and not what the computer can do with the skills and equipment that you have. I have always liked that aspect of Freelancer as well as the entire series of Wing Commander & Privateer II.

I have taken note at what was said in the Cinematics Introduction of Freelancer, and it sounded like that was leaving an opening to go back to fight the coalition in their home system. The Coalition has no doubt by this time expanded into several quadrants themselves. That seems like a great starting point for a stoyline in a Freelancer MMORPG.

Thanks, I appreciate your time!

Vance, if you mean one massive online version, no, no plans for that have been announced and I would not expect any to be, either, the regular FL multiplayer is very good as it is

Yes, massive is what I meant. Currently the software can support up to 128 people, but most servers will not go over 50 due to bandwidth and server stability issues.

Thanks for the reply

I agree many times mmo games tend to turn into banal pokemon card collecting. I'd like to see games where skill is what it takes more than your equipment.

An online Freelancer would have the potential to be great, but as big as 45 systems are, you'd get "clogging" from sheer numbers of players after 300 or so

Would have to expand known space to include more territories. As I said, with EVE u have an entire galaxy to explore and the server holds 7000+ simultanious players, so it can be done.

Someone just needs to do it.

TNG servers can hold 75 no problem. One Server actually has 120 poeple on it soemtimes.

That's still not alot. If someone has some secret plan to steal a government supercomputer and get some sorta huge bandwidth internet connection, sign me up .
