How Does The Freelancer Universe Measure Up?

So, how does it? I mean in the sense, how does the setting compare to similar games? Is the story and background strong enough for it to be worth using it for another game, or is the gameplay/engine the strong point of Freelancer in your opinion? I am interested to read your comments on this.

Do you already have it? Well there're varying reviews about it, but most of them are positive.

Graphics: Very good. 1 Year old and I still admire many of the locales.

Story: Excellent! I like it so much, it keeps you glued to your seat trying to get past the next set of missions to see what will be. Nevertheless the ending leaves something to be desired :S I don't say that it's bad, but it didn't quite tie up all the loose ends.

Voice Acting: Is also very good, very convincing. However! Dialogs get repeatious. Too few of them that you hear over and over again. But as far as the main campaign goes it's very well done.

Characters! Man I love them. This game managed to create characters that're very convincing. You grew to care and liked them a lot. It's unfortunate you can't get to see them that much.

Game Play: Dog fighting pretty fun. Whenever I feel frustrated I'd load my eagle up with sunslayer and shoot the first thing that comes my way

Oh, I suppose I should of clarified that. I have played through the single-player game several (translate: a whole bunch) times. I like it, and I have been playing around with some of my own ideas for other storylines that aren't really sequels to Freelancer.
I am a horrible articulator, so I will try to describe what I mean in another way:
Are the setting elements of the game strong enough to spawn games other than sequels? Like say, hypothetically speaking, would you consider using this setting for a true RPG, or an RTS game? Or perhaps more likely, a similar game based on a single house or faction?

I dunno how old FL is, but I've played it and I still prefer the graphics over all my other PC games. Might even be better than Halo 2 when it comes out, but I think it'd lose in the lustre section.

In my humble opinion, the FL universe would be a great setting for other games. Just the mere fact that one can add systems and other things opens a whole world of possibilities. I just wish I had the programing skills to do MODs and the like.
