I had a similar experience, but I didn't get glasses. After a while the headaches go away.
I have a colleague at work who actually had to get special perscription "computer glasses". He needs glasses to read, though his distance vision is fine. But the computer is in sort of a twilight zone between his good distance vision and reading glasses range. Before he got the "computer" specs, he was always getting headaches.

1: Backlighting, backlighting and backlighting! Turn some frigging LIGHTS on in your room! You should also be sitting with your eyes no closer than 2 feet from your monitor, regardless of type.
2: Every twenty minutes or so, look away from the monitor at something far away for 2-4 seconds, this allows your eyes to rest.
