a new strategy?

i duno if anyone already knows this or if you guys all consider this history or that this should belong in the spoiler forum, but here goes,

9 titans are chasing you, they want your guts, you're a noob in a valkaryie in sigma 19. what do you do ?
well this is what i did. i began to engage, just long enough to have them all bunched up. no i didn't fire a torp. then i make a run for the planet (i forgot the name, but thats irrelevant)
fly towards the planet, until the comp says you're entering the atmosphere. then sharply pull up. pull up and burn to the north/south pole of the planet. npcs, i don't think what ship they're flying matters, but they'll lose about half their comrades into the atmosphere.
repeat process. if they get smart, take them out the old fashioned way.

it's a relatively new trick for me but it saved me from using up more bots/bats than i'd have preferred to.

in those situations, I tend to load up with some really good mines (Rippers, for preference)

if I wind up being chased by too much to handle, I just aim in a single direction, kill engines, hit the afterburners and then coast on out of there in turret mode, dropping the mines to discourage them from following, and flares to ward off the missiles.

I have done things your way though, and it did help me win a pretty tough fight near Malta, but I think it's too much of a risk to attempt on too regular a basis. you might also consider using solar coronas in a similar way, although its harder to tell which bit you need to avoid, and it takes longer for a ship to die in a solar corona thatn from hitting a planet.

just do planet bounce when going on cruisespeed, 90% on planet and bounce back in a burning fireball

turn off engines in open space and face them
they all go away
i think the AI in the game is set to go around u if ur facing them, so if u go forward and turn around, they think that you're the one chasing them

lol.. they do ? never reallt noticed that.. when i turn around there's usually one to go straigh face to face with my guns all open. that or my sunslayer.

I cut engines, do a thruster burst, then whip around and shoot back. When you shoot them, they tend to turn away, giving you more distance between them. Works wonders. Took me a long time to figure it out.

I was in a situation like that once. I too, had a valkerie. I was in sigma 19, too. In the same situation as well. A big conicendice, no? Anyways, I tried to take them out the old fashioned way, and obviously that didn't work. I did the same thing when I got near the planet, but that only killed about a quarter of them. (there was 20 of them!) But that lead to one of the coolest experiences in the game for me. All of them were in a really, REALLY tight formation. I launched a sunslayer. You can guess what happened after .

Ohhh! Beu-tiful! Preeety! How do I blow it up?

I just use this trick which I put into a song

Brave brave sir robin RAN AWAY then turned into an assteroid field and watched the gas go!!

@shadow, i think you'd have spent 2 sunslayers?

Post Wed Feb 04, 2004 12:30 pm

I've never got a sunslayer without modding. I find it too inconvenient to get allied with the...umm...faction (to avoid spoilers) and to go get it.

Post Wed Feb 04, 2004 5:09 pm

when you go foward and cut engines, THEN you turn around, you r going backwards, but the AI still thinks ur chasing them

<edit> heltak, you got that from Monty Python and the Holy Grail didnt you? thats the funniest show ive ever seen lol

this is my world; it goes round and round and round

For me in MP, when I'm chased by BHs in Gamma and I'm too lazy to kill em, I thrust/engine kill in the opposite direction, swing my ship around, fire a few potshots at em as I thrust drift away. They tend to fly away after that hehe idiots

They think youre a lunatic how you fly
