Whers the button to Hail a Ship :-o

Hey the manual says that to hail a ship you just press the "P" button but I tried that and it didn't work It would be much more convenient if the P button were used, that is what I do to ease the boringness of trade lanes I hail the surrounding ship and check ther cargo. Is the P button supposed to work? is my game fried? Or am I insane and it really is working but I don't see it because I am in a paradoxical separate time frame?

you may accidentally have reassigned the hail function to another key, or assigned another function to the "P" key. to hail somebody, you need to select them, then either press the shortcut key, or click on the picture of a radio dish in the lower left hand corner of your HUD, just above the objects list.

Pesuming this is for the SP game, is it possible to hail another ship and demand their cargo like they do to you?

nope, you have to blow them up. Would be a cool feature though...

Hailing doesn't do a whole much though. It just tells you what the NPCs are doing and where they're going. Everything else you can find out faster by looking at the targets list and/or pressing "O" to scan them.

Select a ship.
Default hail key is P, but it doesn't work for me.
Alternatively you can click on the second (or third) symbol to the left on the top of the scanner. That actually works for me. But there's nothing interresting they say, nothing else then the general comm-chatter you hear. This is me, I'm going to this place trading that thingy, need a few more waypoints, blah, blah, blah, that sorta thing.

Edit: Damn spelling.

yes that would be a cool feature! I think, if you come up to a ship who is neutral, you should be able to push a button to tell them to drop the cargo! And if you have a better ship, or at random, they will. and you rep lowers with them. Not to get off subject. :-) It IS my thread.

Yah, there's lots of options people would like to have. Such as selling commodities to NPCs, tipping off the cops, selling information, etc.

It would be esspecially useful when dealing with other players. Typing out "Drop the cargo" when dealing with a freighter can usually mean they get the time needed to restart thier cruise engines.

or you could even be able to type in numerous things! i played a game once called win adventure, you type in job to a person and they tell you their job, name and they tell you their name.. stuff like that. that would be good.

but we are sorta straying from the subject here. I TRIED to assign a keyboard key to the hail control, but it is not in the list! it is not even under the user interface controls.

Being able to ask for their cargo in MP would be cool.

A good use for sp hailing if you cant find a jump hole base etc.
is to find someone who is traveling somewhere and join formation.
i found masses of stuff that way
