Cockpit view

I was looking at some of the screenshots on this website and I can't help but notice that the cockpit view displayed for the Liberty Elite fighter is different from the cockpit view I have seen on Freelancer.
Is this from a Mod? Or do I just need to get a newer version of freelancer?
Or am I just overlooking a hotkey like the moron that I am?
Any help on this would be appreciated.

On the contrary, what you have right now is the new version. Digital Anvil had to cut out some cosmetic features to meet shipping deadline. So the screenshots are from an "older" yet more sophisticated build.

man that sucks......well I kinda like the 3rd person view better than cockpit anyway....but that 3-D radar sure would have come in handy.....
stupid release dates......maybe when they come out with a sequel they will include it. Oh well....

Thanks for your help

I actually like it the way it is right now.
I don't feal like I'm missing a radar or anything. I think I would only get distracted by it.

A radar would be damn useful when moving through enemy systems on cruise engines hoping to avoid a fight. The Contact list doesn't update often enough so most of the time by the time an enemy ship appears on it it's too late to avoid it and BANG there goes your cruise engine and you're stuck in a fight that you don't want and could have avoided.

Also, in low sensor areas (say, attacking GMG's in the sigmas) the second you detect an enemy you need to know exactly where he is. A nice little radar screen could work the wonders that those little arrows come up short on. Besides, you could minimize it with your HUD for distraction purposes. --- VH16

Halo has a HUD as well. They even call it the same thing, the cheap bastards

yeah and that would be great for Multiplayer where those god damn cloakers that always cheat. At least then u could see them on the radar.

Doesn't make sense. Why would a cloaked ship that doesn't show up on the scanner, show on the radar. Anyway, if the cloakers bother you, choose another server.

I still don't miss the radar. It's just fancy eyecandy. And to put it in solely for the purpose of detecting enemy ships is a bit double imho. You got the scanner and if you think it refreshes to slow, you (or someone else) could make a mod wich increases the refresh rate of the scanner, wich is possible btw.

And a radar has a limited range just as the scanner, so avoiding enemies would be just as hard with a radar as it would be without a scanner. And it's realy easy to run from a fight with NPC's.

Maybe FL should have made longrange scanners available, but then again, some mods have them.

wow.....didn't know this was such a controversial issue....hehheh.....
tell you the truth nothing about this game bothers me THAT much....I freakin love it man......
now that I think about it the radar might be a bad idea altogather......it's one thing to show ships on it....but what about other objects.....if you were running through an asteroid field for example the radar might be utterly useless considering how many objects might need to be displayed .....

something to think about.

Perhaps if it could be toggled in, permenently or not, from the setting menu? I would really like to get rid of all of that HUD stuff. With the keys memorised and no use for nanobots in level 10 shields, they just take up space. --- VH16

Toggle, heh heh, funny word

Might be interesting if someone could mod it. In Privateer, which is clearly an inspiration for FL, you started out with a cr*ppy radar system that showed everything the same colour. When you could afford a better radar system, you got one with extended range and different colours! You could tell which were ships, which were other objects etc. The top radar you could buy also showed which were hostile and which weren't. Made working to get a better radar a lot of fun. In FL, every ship has the same system. The wealthiest pilot in the hottest ship has nothing more than the poorest pilot in the cheapest and most basic ship. Seems sort of strange. Then again, better radar wouldn't make that much difference in the SP game missions.
