Dunno Bom, I can understand you p.o.v. but it's so damn easy to install the game on your friends pc, who doesn't own the game and then run the noCD crack. I would be surprised if that was legal to.
It's so hard to check up on it.

It seems some people got me wrong here, namely titus. I oppose pirates completly. I am not trying to get around buying freelancer, becuase i have already bought it. I dont want to go to some lowlife crack site. I just want someone to help me with my problem, which term already has.

@nickless: no its not legal, unless you uninstall from your own hdd first.
then its perfectly legal. much like lending a pal your fav turbonegro album
may sound silly but its there as part of an act to protect the average (law abiding) consumer from the big corporate dawgs

Well, as long as anybody deals with it in a good manner, unfortunately you can't trust on that.
I'm not accusing you, but there are many who do abuse that trust.

If what you're saying is true, that you have COMPLETELY LEGAL COPY, then you shouldn't be ashamed to get other files for your use.

Heck, crack's aren't illegal, it's just if you abuse it it's illegal.

I got a HALF-LIFE crack to play without CD so I can listen to some ROMANTIC song while I slaughter some things and see some gibs fly around

I've had the same problem. I had a file corrupted error message pop-up for a while. I decided to reinstall the game. Instead of a "file corrupted" error message, I got something worse: "illegal operation error." Happened every time I double-clicked the icon. Unfortunately, Freelancer wasn't the only game I had that suffered from this problem. I'm still running Windows '98. I tried using scandisk and defrag and all those other wonderful toys. Nothing worked. I had so many problems, I was forced to blast my harddrive and start over from scratch. I hate doing it because it takes time, but in the end, it did wonders. I can play Freelancer everytime I hit the icon now, and I'm not coming up with any error messages whatsoever. I lost no necessary data when I wiped my harddrive, because I had it all backed up on CD-RW's. I only blast my harddrive as a last resort, though.
