Damage? (sub component)

Playing through the game, I've always been under the impression that targetting certain components of ships, (and actually hitting said components) can make it far more likely for said ship to drop certain things when destroyed, and/or can cause weapons and such to be unuseable. Also, I was under the impression that taking consistent hits to my own ship on, say, a wing, would eventually cause that wing to be destroyed, and all guns on it lost.

However, recently somebody who apparently has actually spent time modding the game has mentioned that none of that does anything, and parts breaking off are purely based on random chance.

Anyways, figured I'd come here and ask the experts...

Thank you for your responses.

I don't think any of us have been in the situation to test this, where a target was just sitting there and you were close enough to aim at his wing. Try testing it online with a VERY willing human opponent. I've got 4 class ten weapons on my bird, so it doesn't make a difference where it hits. --- RR16

Targeting a wing means you can shoot off the wing of the ship easily without destroying the ship. HOWEVER, what they drop is based upon chance, and not upon what you shoot. Shooting the wings off first won't mean you get his wing guns, as blowing teh whole ship to hell first would still mean you got everything. They only drop stuff when dead (unless a transport,at which point shoot the holds), at which point it doesn't matter in what order you pick em apart, just that you waste them

if you shoot a wing off the guns on it will be destroyed

Same as above, but learn this the easy way rather than like me, DON't shoot dying ships or you'll destroy the commodity inside.

Click the "Switch to Target" button on your Radar List Thingamagic. This shows all the parts of the aircraft. You will notice that when you shoot it, parts start to change color, and will eventually be destroyed. Targetting a specific component will help you destroy it by moving the lead indicator (the cross that tells you where to shoot). So, parts being shot off the ship is NOT random, but what it drops IS completely random.

According to the theory of evolution, I should have died a LONG time ago.

it is NOT an "aircraft"
it is a "spacecraft"
it has nothing to do with air!!!!!

I have tried targeting specific items, and as someone mentioned, you can target a wing and shoot if, causing the player to lose all equipment on the destroyed wing (lol, have tried this on a stationary clan mate and through carefull targeting of his wings, transformed his sabre so it resembles a Stilleto).

i stripped that way some npc hunters in missions

i like to strip them art for part to let them fly in a high-powered piranha without top-vin and down-fin

or just shoot only the weaps they carry... so their will be only a flying unweaped titan in the sky...

If u c some1 in a dagger make fireballs from hunters it can be me

Does that mean shooting cockpits will do severe damage?

Heck, it even can get you blown up!

Unfortunitly you are unable to target the cockpits. however blowing all of the wings off of an Eagle and watching the remains fly around is very fun to do. Note, this does require a human to just sit there and use nanobots as it would be very hard to pick off the top and bottom fins of an NPC without destroying it. Esspecially after removing the main wings.

@DaVoid, do that by a hammerhead (hunter) and look it only fly with 4 gunz, no turret and trusther (fin) and other 2 weaps (left/right wing), and topfin

if u look to it, u see that the engine is not on the hammerhead anymore...
