am i a noob or do i have a major problem?

for some reason, i cant use jump holes. when i select the jump hole and use the dock command (f3), my ship stops and nothing happens. i try it again, and my ship automatically flies straight though the hole to the other side of it, i blow up and die. is f3 (dock) the proper command to use when using a jump hole? i am level 36 with a valkrye heavy fighter, trying to get to omega-11 through the jump hole in dresden. this problem has occurred with every jump hole and every ship i use. i have never downloaded any mods or opened any of the game files except to listen to some of the music. HELP!

any replies are appreciated. i am not sure what forum this goes in, so i posted a similar question in the technical forum and the spoiler forum. sry if this constitutes spamming, it wont happen again. its just that this question is REALLY starting to hurt my game, and its getting me frusterated.

Well - several things can happen - i think i read you play SP - which is strange that i am about to suggest this.

The big un - lag. lag is always a b****** when sitting at anything to dock, as it takes AGES for anything to happen. Watch for little red indicator at top corner (lag indicator), another one to watch is your health bar - cos if the shield goes down really quick and then your hull - its cos of being shot during lag (you cannot see the aggressor - its a lag kill - a real pain, and the bain of every trader!). I hate to say it, but during bad lag i have flown through a shut jumpgates doors, round the back and through again about 4 times in a row - there was over 2 mins of lag.

Next - the dock might be in use, and sometimes its in use with no other NPC's or anything around. Typical eh? Always a que when no-one is there. Only way to know if that is true, is becuase of just a shimmer (green, red or other colours) you will see flashing lights in a circle rotating around. that means the jumphole is activated.

Last one, if its in SP - i doubt it, but there is a chance the hole is locked. I don't remember it being one of them, but you never know.

I'm only replying so you know there are people reading this and not just ignoring it. I have no idea it's a new one on me. You're not talking about a locked jump hole.

I had this problem for a while too. Due to the spec of the machine I play SP on, I could only put it down to being a major bug in the game. It happened quite a lot to me during the main storyline...juni would bark something like "trent make the jump, be quick" and I'd be sat there for half an hour trying to get the ******* to dock!

The good news is that I found a trick to it...it sometimes happens when you are too close. Fall back about 4 clicks, and approach again slowly. Hit F3 from at least 3 clicks away. This seemed to work *sometimes* for me.

Also I found a complete reinstall to be the answer the last time it happened.

Oh...and if you have the ms patch installed...reinstall the game and DO NOT reinstall the patch.

I know its vague, but these things worked for me, hope it helps....
