Newbie! Advise for first mods to install...

Hi everyone.

Newbie here.

I just finished the single player adventure and I am ready to explore on my own this universe.

I was just wondering if I should install one the mods that enhance sound , music,etc...

Is there any mods that adds new single player quest?

Are these mods only for multiplayer?

any advise regarding the mods install and the compability between them?

And finally... what are your mods install config? I mean..with what mods installed are you playing now in single and multi?

Thanks a lot.

First of all, you will want to get Freelancer Mod Manager (FLMM). Otherwise, you will have to reinstall Freelancer everytime you want to try out a new mod. Many of the mods here feature the ability to work with it.

The FreeWorld mod is one of the more popular mods due to the drastic changes. It makes the game more realistic by making system crossing take forever and multiple ship encounters always hurt. This mod is a pure Star Wars mod.

The Next Generation mod (TNG) and Rebalance mod both add a hug amount of ships to the game. TNG replaces all buyable guns with their own new guns and rebalance adds more guns to the old guns. Rebalance swaps NPC ships to new ones and battleship/cruiser fleets can be found in major systems. TNG has capital ship encounters in their own new system, the Nexus.

TNG always has a server with many people on it, but Rebalance does not (Rebalance has had past issues with crashing servers and causing CTDs). Freeworlds mod seems to have waves of people who come and leave. The missions are hard with your first ship and mining is the only feasible way to make money. However, this mod only features 4 systems and no uber weapons or shields.

In the end, the choice is yours however. If I have said anything that is completely off, feel free send death threats, bombs, anthrax, spam mail, flames, assassins and anything else to my email.

The destroyable universe is always fun.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not download Serious Sirius if your a noob. It makes the game harder.

Isn't Freeworld multi only, the best Star Wars mod I've found for SP is Porches new ships,
The only mods I have going on my game at the moment is sound and graphic mods, if you've only just finished the SP storyline I suggest changing the game as little as possible until you get bored, then go modding, no use paying so much for the game if your only going to experience half of it.

Freeworlds is multiplayer only. Rebalance and TNG mostly work with SP. If you just want to change a few small things, try some smaller mods. I have yet to try out the new graphics one...

Thanks a lot.

I will therefore carry on playing the single player mod on my own until I get bored.

I might check the new sound and grafic mod using the manager if it can be unistall easely.

then when I will go multi... will try the mods.

thanks for the answers.

Flroain. ps.: I am not sure the reply notification email for the forum works.
I never received one for yours answers...

if I were you I'd hold your horses and wait for chips' new mod to be released....it sounds like all the mods you'll ever want rolled into one.

oh and personally, I think I'm alone in saying this, I thought the next generation mod was a bit poor. It made the game into something far too kiddie for my liking.

I've heard the Star Wars MP mod is amazing though, so thats another one you might want to check out (only on the allocated servers though unless you want to get banned).

EDIT: PS. The reply notification doesn't work...its a long known issue, you'll have to keep checking back I'm afraid

why not try victors mod 1.62?
it makes the factions and ships more balanced and comes bundled with openspv1.1, and the ioncross server (www.ioncross.com/) is super.
i havent slept all that much since i discovered this one last week

@Bom: So, this is your second reply eh? And a good one too.

Anyway, I like the Free World mod, but it does make the game a lot harder.

Like others said, flay Single player until you almost want to throw FL away. Then start the SP-Campaigns again, but this time with diferent ships.
Some have completed it with a Light Fighter, even a starflier! (the one you start out with)

Then, when you think you're good enough, go online and discover that MP is a totally different "Universe". Meet new people, Fight against other player wich is a lot of fun, join a clan and fight against other clans.

Have Fun!

@nickless: and this is my forth. growing up, i am

remember that the mod manager isnt really the greatest for UN-installing.
best do a clean install every time, if not, expect to get banned for cheating or the game to crash.
i know, it sux
