Light Fighters

What do you all think of light fighters?

I finished single player using a Drake, and it wasn't too hard. I am aware of the other topic concerning finishing SP with a light fighters.

But what about Multiplayer? Is it worth using a light fighter in MP? Or do you just get taking out in 3 seconds flat by an equivalant Heavy or super heavy fighter. Especially given the most expensive Light fighter is a Banshee.

hiya welcome to the forums

with the light fighters there good for turning and things like that but they cant hold high class weps and shileds and in the world of mp that might help lol cause there be some nasty peeps on mp who kill n00bs for breakfast
u dont hve to go to a very heavy fighter like most peeps
i got on very well with a dromedary freighter for awhile
but as most peeps in here would probably say personal choice really u choose what u like
have fun

have you ever used your light saber to open a bottle of Bud Light???????

Personally, in SP, I always preferred Light fighters over heavier stuff. Although, I've never fought a human opponent before, which I'm guessing is much different than the Computer AI. Maybe missiles would help a light fighters firepower...

missles can help unless thre using countermeasures and in mp u have a 50 50 chance of hitting someone with missles or torps if u can dodge well enough then u can get away from them

have you ever used your light saber to open a bottle of Bud Light???????

I loved the Drake with four matched weapons. I was taking on and taking out 8 to 12 Bounty hunters or Outcasts -- sometimes a mix of both -- with ease. But for the final SP missions, I traded it in on a heavy fighter because of the shields. The baddies simply could knock down my shields with one or two hits, leaving me to circle and dodge until my shields came back to keep me in one piece.

I've always said speed and agility over strength and power, for anything involving combat really. Light Fighters are the way to go if you have the skill to fly them, think about it, what point is there for shields and armour if you're agile enough to never get hit. The firepower may be a bit of a problem for a Light Fighter pilot but if you manage to stay on thier six its only a matter of time before they are smoldering wrecks cartwheeling through space.
I've yet to play Freelancer in multiplayer but I played XWA on the zone quite a bit, in an unshielded and unarmoured TIE Fighter with only two laser cannons I managed to destroy an ISDII and take on 2 X-Wings at once, and had a heap of fun doing it.

Like Kheiron says, if you've got the skill, go for it. I used to play on Calgary with a Drake or a Hawk, but the most agile ship in the whole game (in my opinion) has gotta be the Starflier or the Drake, but if you're playing in a PKP enabled server then I wouldnt recommend the Starflier for obvious reasons lol.

Patriot takes the cake for most maneuverable, with Starflier, Dagger, Pirahna, and Drake following in second. Banshee is also worth a look, since it is the highest-class LF, but it lacks the zip of some of the lower class LFs.

WTF Nuke

Drake is like 5 points more manuverable than the Patriot

Post Fri Nov 07, 2003 10:42 pm

Lf manuverabilty
Drake has fastest turn rate Then patriot and starlyfer then pirahna legionere hawk banshee then dagger then startracker
100 = drake
95 starlyfre and ptriot
75 pirahna legionere hawk banshee
70 dagger
65 startracker

Inertia make patriot and drake about equal however

What about the cavalier?

Hm. Must have been thinking of the size of the ship...my bad. Noting to warrant Mr. "WTF" there, but whatever...

I prefer maneuverable heavy fighters (aka civilian ship line, Eagles, Falcons, ect.) They'll fly cirlces arround other heavy fighters and have the firepower needed to swat those pesky patriots. --- RR16

whoever came up with "Mission Commision" should be lined up and shot

I think that the best type of fighter also depends on the situation, in open space ill take a light fighter over a VHF any day since the light fighter can out manuever the VHF, but in asteroid fields i would take a heavy since you can dodge behind rocks, and missiles are definatly the way to go with light fighters, but make sure you have one gun incase you run out of missiles

AH HA! I shall be different and have no signature...

i like the light fighters also... i like also the very low level heavy fighter (aka. defender).

i did with the dagger 245k assissin missions from malta, with great fun... i did that before with the defender, but with higher cost (damned sunslayer ammo)...

the last time that i flew a heavy fighter is also a long time ago... but well... i like agility better then firepower... and i'm good in using missiles... agianst hunters i have without lag sometimes in 1 mission 100% hit by using sometimes over the 50 missiles... yep missiles... sweeper and slingshot missiles in missions with pay more then 200k...

i destroyed also 1 time a eagle in my little dagger, he didn't got me off his back... isn't it fun to do

If u c some1 in a dagger make fireballs from hunters it can be me
