It Wasn''t Elite !!!

OK Guys this a cry for help, Way back when, when God was a lad I played a game it was in the style of the elite series but had better graphics. Can't remember whether it was windows or DOS but you docked with stations and the like to trade and take missions.

I know all this sounds like Elite but it wasn't any ideas.

Oh it was about the time of Rise of the Triads and came on about 6 Disks

Frontier was Elite 2, and what you described sounds very much like it.

Its freeware nowadays, have a hunt around you'll find it soon enough.

Still feuding. There are rival sites on Elite. There was a nice PC adaption of Elite on one site for a while, but they got told to take it off.

p.s. Is this the game asked about?

You can download the game on line. I recall one site that has all of the ELite versions downloadable.

p.s. I once got a PC version called Elite Plus. I was very disappointed with it! Just better graphics for a PC, nothing melse added. And the "short story" that came with it was dreadfully bad. The original Elite came with a great short story written by a real pro.

Yeah I remember that story!! That was the first time I'd heard of the word "novella" (I was about 9 ok!?!)....great little book though, really set the atmosphere up.

You can download it here. I read "The Dark Wheel" again and it's just as good as the first time. Holdstock is a top notch fantasy writer. Got you just about jumping up and down wanting to play. I was sort of diappointed that the game didn't let you find Raksa though.

And a link to the Elite versions, the inspirations of Freelancer:

A read on line version. Shows you just how much there is "The Dark Wheel" in Freelancer. Alex Ryder = Edison Trent! Same beginning with a disaster too.
