the in-story battles were the best. i've had fights with swarms of nomad fighters that i've barely survived..

anything with capitol ships and lots of fighters. the kind you get in x-wing alliance or rebel strike. i wish there were functioning battleships in post-story/multiplayer FL games (non modded)....

Taking on the Patriots outside a certain jump gate while they were eqipped with very different weapons (anyone who has played SP knows) was the hardest battle I've ever fought. I flew an Anubis into that fight the first time. Wasn't the greatest of ideas... took a Drake the second time and barely pulled it off. That was such an awesome fight.

Outside of SP, I was in a Dagger and my friend in a Startracker. Suddenly, Manhattan went hostile on us. (I could never figure out why) There were about 12 Kishiro Starfliers, 8 Agiera Starfliers, 5 Universal Starfliers and 10-14 Patriots flying around. Life was interesting for the next few minutes

No doubt, the in game battles were best. But they always limited you as to how far you could fight. Personally i would love to see a battle between Orillions organization and the big bad nation that tries to do you-know-what to you-know-who (Just to keep it free of spoilers :p)

My fav was getting Quentain to Cali. Fighting the fleet was such good fun, but they should have made the enemy stronger.

I disagree, out-story battles are great, sometimes better than those in the campaign. Anyway, here are my favorites:

In-story:
Against Tons of Nomads
or
Escaping Liberty in a Starflier

Out-Story:
Against 12 Ace Outcasts (much more fun)
or
Against 6 Blood Dragons in a Rhino ( )

Try flying into the Outcast systems when they hate yer guts. It's a tough one in any kind of ship. I also got lost and couldn't remember which jump hole got me out -- just kept going back and forth into Outcasts systems! Finally managed to get back out in one piece (but minus a wing and gun) after over an hour of mayhem. Made a bundle selling outcast guns I'd suck in though.

The scripted game battles and especially the hired missions can be easier than the chaos when you accidentally stick your nose into a hostile system!

Uuuhhh...The first time I encountered the Xenos(in the demo). I was in a Rhino with the stock shield, 3 Justice II's, and 2 stunpulse turrets...That ended with no batts, bots, and two missing weapons, but it was a lot of fun.

As for the most challenging...a 'leisurely' cruise through the "unknowns" in a Patriot. 'nuff said.

Fighting nomads in a dagger. 1-2 hits on your hull and your toast.

I wasn't going to jump into this thread but something FlakAttack said caught my eye:

...Suddenly, Manhattan went hostile on us. (I could never figure out why)...

This has happened to me twice, both times when I was taking on Rogues and Junkers (I think) in the same place - maybe Southampton in Bretonia. I noticed that my contact list suddenly went from 3-4 targets to overflowing but I was too busy to take a close look - thought at first it was just a bunch more incoming, then having whacked one guy I realized that the next target was a liberty cop - that's when I looked properly at the list and saw that a bunch of allies had suddenly become hostile. So what happened? Did another cop get in the way, maybe, and took some of my fire that was intended for an enemy? I would have thought I'd have had to do a lot worse to cause a complete switch like that, since my rep with the LSF, Liberty Police, Navy etc. was way up before that.

Edit... Liberty cops in Bretonia? Naaah. I can't remember exactly where this happened. Probably not important.

And to at least try to stay with the discussion... the time I innocently went through the Omicron Alpha jump hole in Tau 37 in a Falcon... Beat off two waves before I was able to get back through the hole. Lost the top fin, a wing, at least one gun. No batts of bots left, hull down to around 5%. I just about managed to outrun more Outcasts back to Freeport 10. Intense!

Escaping libery is my favourite. as for mods, the rebalance mod 3 way pirate fleet battles in omicron alpha + gamma are fun

yea i have to say the Single Player missions are good. Like ff my favourite is the escape from NY. When you first play the game the universe feels just so big.

(also is this a slight spoiler? maybe it needs to be moved)

@FlameCurse

Sounds like you accidentally zapped a good guy. I remember taking off from The Ring, great friends with everybody. As usual when leaving that station, I got jumped by the Bundschuh. Suddenly, some idiot Rheinland cop flew between me and my target. As soon as the cop flew into my laser fire, the whole planetary system turned red and attacked me! The station was firing at me, the jump gates were firing at me, the cops and navy were attacking at me ... I had a great battle destroying all and sundry. But I had to fly out of the system and stay out for some time before they went green again. Even stranger was the fact that only the New Berlin system was hostile. The rest of Rheinland still called me Kamerad.

Escaping from Manhattan is my favourite. The Liberty heavy fighters are weaker than Rogue Bloodhounds, so all-out carnage ensured. I don't think there is anything in the Liberty systems which can stand up to a Patriot with four plasma cannons. (That is until you return further along the story).

if you return to liberty , ageria are green to you for some odd reason
