A chronological sequel?....

Im surprised this hasnt been mention before in the forums before (you probably already know this) but the "--lancer" games seem to be set in a chronological series. In fact i was prompted to buy the game from a friend who remembered playing a game like it called Elite when he was young (not the mod, the original game)

apon further investigation i downloaded elite 2 and found that the prominent sides were the alliance and the coalition. it then hit me that these sides and the ones mentioned in the freelancer intro were one and the same. havng never played starlancer i assume it has somthing to do with the "war" mentioned in the intro movie. To starlancer vets, is this true?

this leads me onto the main topic for this forum, the widely debated freelancer 2. i am unaware of the sales of freelancer (obviosuly if they were good microsoft would make a second one) has anyone heard about a possible freelancer sequel?

of course even to people who have just played freelancer the possibilities for continuation are endless. What are your views on a freelancer 2?? Would it be a continuation of the lancer series? say, back to the war between the alliance and the coalition or maybe first contact between the alliance and their sirius offspring? on the other side could it be an expansion with more planets ships guns ect ect eg like "return of the nomads" or somthing?

i refuse to think freelancer is dead, But what are your views???????

Freelancer isn't dead, but it's downside is the lack of an instant action mode in multiplayer. There is no hop in and start shooting here.

It takes hours to work your characters up to the point where they are more than just potential victims, the first 4 or 5 times doing this is interesting, there is a lot to explore in the Freelancer galaxy, but after repeating this theme for the 10th, 15th, or 20th time (a process that must be repeated on each new server), it becomes downright monotonous.

I've often suggested for those wishing to start a server for Freelancer veterans, to set the starting credits to 1or 2 million, so players can go immediately for a decent ship and get down to the business of shooting each other, which is what multiplayer is all about.

Hi hohoho (hmmm sounds like one of the seven dwarves with a stutter )

Elite is the subject that you'll usually see me harping on about the most on these boards (just do a search and you'll see what I mean)....I also expect to see Mr BarWalker appear in this thread at some point too, as he's as passionate about the game as I am. I would highly recommend that you try to download the original Elite as its sequels were extremely inferior, try to ignore the graphics though as they're extremely outdated now, but I think you'll find it much more addictive.

Its cool that you noticed the similarities in FL and Elite because it was the thing that attracted me to FL in the first place. I just wish that one day someone would produce a game that had the same playability that Elite had....I find it bizarre that the trading system in a game that weighs in at less than 50K and was produced over 20 years ago can still outplay modern games like FL.

As for a FL sequel, you're very right in saying that these things usually swing into play due to the number of sales....there has been much speculation on these boards about such a sequel, but I'm afraid at the moment thats all it is, speculation.

Freelancer certainly isn't dead yet though....TLR is now racking up increasingly more and more visitors....I get the feeling this is only the beginning. When it drops in price or even gets a budget release, the game will have a whole new lease of life.

I think it was the Federation and the Empire, in Elite 2.
Not that I played that 24/7 for 3 years when I was supposed to be playing football and looking up girls skirts.

Hohoho, Gomit your funny!

Anyway, all we can do is hope that a squal somes out (or expansion, but come to think of it, isn't Fl basicly a expansion of SL?) and encouraging people to buy it so the rating are high and MS think its good enough to make it.

While we're all on the subject of Elite, does anyone know where I can download it...for free. There's too much 'elite' cr*p on the net to do a search on it.
Help very much appreciated as I get very bored of the games I have very fast.

Never mind.
