Will this laptop run freelancer nicely?

I just moved from America to Germany.. having been 3 months without my own computer, I decided to cough up some cash to buy a laptop.. and hopefully get back into FreeLancer.

Since most of you guys are super technical nerd geniuses, I thought I would run by this setup real quick for you in order to get me some feedback. Please tell me what you think

Mobil AMD 2000+
256mb DDR ram
266mhz fsb
ATI Radeon 320M (8-128mb Shared memory)
1024x768 max res w/o extern. display.

I'm not so sure how fast a mobil amd 2000+ is, or the ATI Radeon 320M. How would it compare to the system I had back home? about equal you think?

My computer back home was this:

AMD Athlon 1800+
256mb SDRAM
266mhz bus
ATI (something) 64mb ram

And I could run the game nicely at 1024x768, everything highest.

Well I don't know if this helps but Mrs. FlameCurse has been running on a 650 Athlon + 256Mb VGA without problems; I originally tried running on a 2.4GHz P-4 and it was unplayable until I put in a 128Mb VGA. That indicates to me that the graphics setup is the single most important factor. Maybe you could get the seller to let you try running the FL demo to see how it plays before you decide.

Hmm.. well I cant get the seller to run a FL demo..

Here is what I want to know though.. is the 128mb of shared memory slow.. and equal to a desktop PC with 64mb of true video memory?

I'll put it this way...I used to play FL on a PIII 333 with 128Mb RAM and 32Mb Graphics Card....if that could run it, so can your laptop....

...and that says it all. The laptop you describe certainly has the specs, I see no reason why you would have any problems.

i play on a p4 2.6g with 256 ddr using 64m for graphics plays fine so as memory&graphics are the major issues i would hazard a guess that that laptop will handle it fine

My laptop with Celleron 1.5 ghz, 256 mb RAM and 32 mb on NVidia card runs Freelancer just fine (had to load it on the laptop, so I can play while away from home...)

Ok then, great.. thanks guys for your input. Ill purchase the laptop today.. and freelancer (auf Deutsch) sometime next week. Maybe I'll see some of you around.

So, now that Elite is going under.. where is the party at now?

can you recommend good servers, either modded or not?
