Is this non linear?

I heard that this game was great because it was so non-linear, but it seems like im stuck helping this june chick and her cop-friends. I havnt been given a real descision to make yet. Is it a branching storyline? am i just not being paitient?
Also, do the non-story driven missions ever get any more interesting than "go to X and kill as many Y as possible"? I like my freighter and looking for profitable trade routes while keeping myself and my cargo togeather. Are there ever any trade missions?
Im not looking for any spoiler information. It just seems like im missing something.

It becomes non-linear only after the story is over. Also, many times you can leave the story and freelance, but not level up too far.

"Although I do not consider myself a member of the Bounty Hunters' Guild, I find that their goals and mine often follow the same path. I will aid them when I can...if they give me a percentage of the salvage from whatever they frag along the way. Hell, they were even so kind as to sell me a ship after one of my jobs with them, and I've been flying her ever since. But god help them if someone puts a bounty on THEIR heads, for I don't care who I hunt for, as long as their live capture(or untimely death) can get me enough credits to buy a decent sized mug of my favorite drink."- A Freelance Bounty Hunter.

Ahh Okay i see. thought it might have been a branching storyline ala "Tachyon" where the story evolves acording to your decisions. Its still a blast though 8).

After you finish the story line, it's all up to you. Even before then you can take your time about things. When Juni tells you to meet her somewhere, she'll hang around tha bar doing whatever it is she does with men in bars until you finally show up. And just for fun some time, when Juni asks you to fly a mission with her ... say no! Interesting to watch her reaction. King gets sort of p*ssed off too.

Yeah, i been saying no to her. She gets that little pinched expression over her eyebrowse the same way my ex-girlfriend used to get when i told her we should quit our jobs and take a motorcycle trip outwest.

I felt bit conned. Freelancer is a great game, but: It would be cool if important stations could be destroyed (that would really influence the story) and MultiPlayer sometimes feels like single player especially when you dont see any players for a long time.

Try the mods. There's one mod that lets you destroy EVERYTHING! Well, except things like planets and stars ...

unfortunately when you blow up those stations, the game will crash

Maybe we need a mod that lets you be a Nomad and try to destroy everything -- all factions, all stations. Of course, you'd be flying one of those Nomad squid ships with no shields... wouldn't be easy.
