Good, bad or indifferent...

First, to all the flamers, do your worst, I'm full of anti-inflamatories...

Well, this forum is for general discussion, so lets discuss FL in general
Let me say that I am a mature gamer, and date back to the original elite on the bbc, for those who remember it, and still consider that to be the best space game ever. I've also owned and played to death every WC game there ever was, and have a love / hate relationship with the WC movie, its pants, but you have to love it because its WC...

I just finished the storylime and have to say, I'm disappointed, its leaves you feeling incomplete....... theres just something missing. I'm not sure what, just something, whether it be difficulty (I played the storyline without a death or mission failure) or M$ decided to just cut their losses and get the game out without finishing it.
The storyline is incomplete, theres no two ways about it. Having played these games for years, I dont recall ever finishing a game and feeling that it wasnt finished. Fine, they left it open for expacs or sequels, but the game still wasnt finished.
That artifact from the Dom Kavosh? It was the central point to the story, and supposedly opened a multitude of "Hyper Gates" to other systems, yet you activate it and ..... the story is over, it doesnt do what its supposed to do in THIS game.
So I can carry on, level some more, go find bigger and better ships and equipment, but to what end? Levelling is to simple, with a fixed economy (and that really sucks IMHO) it is simple to earn money, gain the levels and get whatever you want.... theres no challenge, no desire to do it, no encouragemnt to spend your time on a dead product, because that is what the game becomes the moment you finish the storyline, dead.... until the expac or sequel.

The pity is, they have a great universe.

With a little work, a little effort, and probably, a lot of money, this universe could become a hell of a mmorpg. I've been waiting a very long time for a space based mmorpg, and this could of been it. M$ have good pedigree with online games, and know how to keep them going, I played Asherons Call for almost 3 years, and here is the basis for something that could last a long time and earn them a lot of money... After beta testing JumpGate and Earth and Beyond, neither come close to the possibilities this game has, if it was developed to its full potential, but.... we live in the fast $ world, and unless this game earnt a specific amount of dosh, there wont even be an expac.

In short, great story, great control system, great universe, poor ending and poor polishing to the bits and pieces that make a great game great.

One does wonder if it was "dumbed-down".......

Ashurek:

its pants

You're the second person I've seen that said this, what does it mean?

Second, I don't think most people would disagree with you. But if you want to expand your gaming, check out the mods people have made for Freelancer. Some them really give a whole new level of play to the game as well as open all those pesky gates you were complaining about. Also, some add whole new systems and new ships to fly.

Well something is either proper or pants

proper it good
pants it aint.... easy huh?

And well.. you shouldnt discuss the FL Story ending HERE considering some still might not have finished it

Sometimes the glass is half full, other times its half empty. Usually its just twice as big as it really needs to be

yeah...and if its "big sweaty pants" thats really bad....and when you get to "big sweaty stained brown pants" you've really hit the bottom

I have to agree that this game is on the verge of being just fantastic. I cant wait till a MMORG comes allong, Ive been waiting years for it. I checked out star wars, but a freelancer type game would be way better. With the possibillity of players forming together to build there own bases and a dynamic trading system in place, this game would just own all the others.

Maybe somebody should start a thread about what's wrong with Freelancer and what they could have done better ...

So where does the term come from? What does "pants" mean in reference to how it started?

its just one of those UK school playground terms thats been around forever...pants referring to underpants, the unflattering kind that your granny used to wear....eg. "its big, smelly, brown at the back, yellow at the front, creased up the arse, never been washed, passed down from generation to generation, pants" (the grosser the better), shortened to "that was complete pants" or even "you're talkin' total pants" and so on...

...very useful term in later life. lol.
