Freelancer Prequel / Retraction Pack

No sequel BS here. This is partly serious and partly making fun of all the Sequel/expansion pack threads. This is the place to say what shouldn't have been in the game if anything.

Personally for a retraction pack I'd like to go back to a joystick (That is the only time it will be said, okay.)

I'd also like to retract from CG movies to Real Actors.

For a prequel, I wish there was a better understanding of the beginning politics of the Sirius system. How each faction staked out their domain.

A place of origin for a lead character with real homey details (for better or for worse) would be good. What I mean by that is if it was a good home it would be hard to leave, if it was a bad home Trent couldn't wait to leave or whoever the character.

It would also be nice to be in ships that still weren't perfected and had some minor and major faults. And there wouldn't be heavy classes yet for anyone except the military.

Nanobots and shield batteries should be retracted in my mind.

Watching the construction of tradelanes would be neat. But I personally don't like the whole trade lane system. I'd just want to have the jumps closer to each other.

Personally I would also like the radiation zones retracted. If a place is that bad for a ship there wouldn't even be a jump to it.

Again, this is a prequel and retraction pack thread, not a "would be neat to have thread."

What shouldn't have been in the game?
Like someones sig sugests, ditch the mission commision.

Also ditch the "Uh huh" and "This is your first time here, isn't it?"

The Titan Flies Like A Cow
"They're talking from here..." - Freddy Mercury '86

TLR: You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.

I kind of like the "uh-huh". Tells you just what a thickie Trent really is.

go back to leeds, where he lived before the game ' this your first time here?' uh huh'....
mind you i like the omicron alpha bartender, oi, ive never seen you here before, you some kinda newbie?

and then a junker on i think helgoland base: we dont run this place, we just break a few arms now and again if we have to

Post Thu Sep 25, 2003 8:39 am

Well uhh... Have you SEEN leeds? Have you read the news there? If I lived on a planet where the average lifespan was 55 years, most people had lost all sense of taste from working in fertilizer plants and food served is fed to cattle in other systems, Id actually wanna get out of there pretty fast yeh? Leeds is the slums system of Bretonia, like Houston is to Liberty

Sometimes the glass is half full, other times its half empty. Usually its just twice as big as it really needs to be

Yeah, but at least you don't have to live through worst years. The adult diaper, collastame bag wearing years.

And as for taste, since when have any of the British Isle cultures been known for the taste of their cooking? I don't think it will change any in the future. The Leedsians aren't missing anything.

I have a sneaky suspicion that synth paste is just another name for mushy peas ...
maybe with some food colouring added.

Now I'm convinced Synth Paste is made by Gerber Baby Foods.

Things should take different times to charge and reach cruise speed. Which also may or may not depend on how much cargo you are carrying.

Starflier, cheap & economical (plus you WANT to buy something better) 3 sec.
Light Fighters, 1-2 sec Military , 2-3 sec Civilian
Medium Fighters erm Heavy Fighters 2-3 sec Military, 3-4 Civilian
Very Heavy Fighters Eagle 2/3, Saber/Anubis/HH? 3-4, Tank ehm Titan 5
Freighters Rhino 5 sec rest of freighters semi-proportional to cargo space

New Items
Cruise Capacitors - Stores energy necessary to achieve cruise speeds, big and takes up some cargo space, also if at least 1/2 charged and ship is destroyed adds a blast radius
'Compact' uses less cargo space but more expensive
'Normal' well opposite of compact

Uses energy from ship (but not bank unless you override and can't switch back until repaired, this is an inexpensive repair) to charge and makes cruise achivement quicker. Different grades (capacities) have proprotional effect (one double in capacity has double the effect. Also stackable but at the cost of extra cargo space and diminishing returns. However this Item only drains energy till charged.
So for example 2 qty of 5 GW (or whatever) Cruise Capacitors doesn't have quite the effect of 1 qty of 10 GW Cruise Capacitor, but less expensive, and slightly more cargo space used.

@Ivellios

I will consider the changing of same speed cruising a "retraction," but the rest of you post is more of an expansion. And that is not what this thread is about.

Your ideas are certainly valid, but perhaps better suited in an expansion thread if you can find one that has not been locked. No harm done, just letting you know.

Also if Trent comes from Leeds, and had a ship when he left, shouldn't the Leeds
system be already uncoversd on the star chart. One of my pet peeves.
