oh by the way,
the reason i havent replied for so long is because since i stopped playing freelancer i havent come on this site, that should be obvious, shouldnt it?
I only came on today cos i wanted to see if there was any news about an expansion/sequel, oh well, see you in another few weeks

All the mods being created for FL can keep most of us hooked on FL into eternity, but that doesn´t seem enough for you. Oh well, it´s your loss. BTW, don´t get your hopes up for a sequel or official add-on in the near future.

Be seeing you !

Reminds me of my kid sister, who would sit in the middle of the room surrounded by her toys and scream -- "THERE'S NOTHING TO DO HERE!"

lol. reminds me of my girlfriend

agent smith - maybe you should try the next gen mod...apparently its like a whole new world...might hold your attention for another 24 hours anyway.

the people here a bunch of pricks,
why did you all have to start giving me crap?
Its not like i said you were pathetic for still playing or something,
yet many of you seem to be offended by my comments,
I asked what game people turned to after freelancer, and nobody seems to
want to reply to that.
(2 of the weeks i was playing was during school holidays, so i played it
more than i otherwise would have, just for those who said i have a short attention span)
And perhaps i dont have a short attention span, maybe you are all slow.....AND CRAP AT GAMING!

Post Wed Sep 03, 2003 12:02 pm

Put it into perspective. You post an inciting thread asking how people can still play this crap and that you are bored. Now would you really want a thread of 100 posts saying 'i agree, and i play MOHAA'??
of course, anything someone likes they will defend.....logic really. People are surprised by your 'quick to get bored of the game' attitude, and also your 'I post this cos i don't want to play it, yet am basically saying you guys have no life due to playing this after the length of time i did' - i still play it, its been 3 months! I went online before even doing SP, then made a couple of friends that i flew with for a couple of weeks.
Now you have just insulted everyone cos you got replies that you don't like....
Well, tough luck. What did you really think would happen? Its like going onto a site for film fans of one particular film and saying 'it was okay, but the storyline had plot holes, and it just draged on for ages....pretty dull - oh and your all really stupid dickheads!' - What would you expect from that?!?!?!?!
I think that your lack of understanding of others enjoyment based upon your own views shows a lack of consideration of other people, not to mention the narrow minded opinion of you in relation to other people (known as the 'how come everyone doesn't do as i do? aren't i god?' frame of mind.
Here is a novel idea for you, post on the sites of the games that you still play, and leave your critisims elsewhere - or start another site for the 'disgruntled FL player who thinks anyone playing it still are loosers'

I make yours words mine...first he says "how can you play this?!" then...oh well...but I kinda understand him in the point that, after you finish SP you really dont have nothing to make you keep playing(offline)...IF you plaied SP just to say that..."i plaied SP...yeah...gimme an emmy..." on the other hand, if you plaied SP and took all its juice...well my friend....youre hooked for life!!! my opinion anyway...dont flame me pls!!!

to kill or to be killed...if it lives, kill it...if it stands, level it to da ground...if in doubt?WIPE IT OUT!

"They don't have attention deficit disorder."

I do. However, I'm still playing the game, and play to start it again. Though I have ADD, I can often get absorbed into interesting video games abd play the same thing over and over for months.... just as long as it's intellectually stimulating.

Yes, absolutely everything I post, including this, is spam.
Bite me.

chips i suppose you are right, i should have put more thought into my post,
it was a little harsh on people, and infact, i have recently pulled out freelancer for one more spin online, hopefully my server is still going strong.
Cheers

Congratulations to all whom have posted here. This may be the first time I have seen an issue intellectually resolved, and not just degenerate into a flame fest for all parties.

I can understand both sides of the argument, I confess that when I find a game I really enjoy, I will spend every spare minute of the day playing it. This, all too often, means that a great game can lose some of its appeal quite quickly. I have got to be honest though, with the options available in freelancer, the mods created by great people like Wanderer, Glock, FireBase and too many others to mention, plus the on-line factor and ‘self made’ mods. This is a game with a longer life span than most I’ve come across.

Happy Freelancing.

Hey, Smithy ... I didn't mean to flame you, if I did. But your original post sort of made it sound like you were flaming everyone who didn't agree with you. You're okay though.

So back to what you asked, I still like to play HARDWAR once in a while. Ever heard of it? It came out about 5 years ago. And I love the HOMEWORLD series. You control a whole fleet and have to fight your way back to your home planet, from which your ancestors were deported by an evil villain generations ago. Check them out.

not been playing MP much but SP kept me happy for about 5/6 weeks
tried every ship traded pirated etc before i started to lose a little interest.

then i tried a mod and im am hooked all over again.

massive mod has kept me going for a week now and i have several other mods downloaded ready to play.. when i finish Massive

so im fixed up for a good month or two as it is, without any more new mods comming out

FL has plenty to keep it interesting and the mods keep it addictive

Oh - my post was a little harsher than i thought! Just read it back - oops - sorry!
Anyways.....brace for impact!!!
FL is the first game i have brought and played in a LONG LONG TIME!!!! Its cause its a space sim, and i LOVE space! I usually grow bored of games really quickly, and i mean really quickly....either that or i play them to death for about a week, then never again. However, until 4 months ago, it had been approx 10 years since i last played games regularly (i played golden eye on the N64 a bit). Last game i played with any enthusiam must have been X-Wing on my 25mhz, 4meg memory, 80meg hard drive, dos 6.0 PC!!!
However, before this i did buy MOHAA (saw the adverts, looked cool, i brought it) and also Command and Conquer Generals (great for about 5 days, then stopped as soon as i found the 'formula' to win every time. Soooooo - if anyone can recommend any other good games out there- i would love to see what i missed in that time span!!!!!!!
(keep hearing of privateer, and other old games, also new ones coming. The only other game i EVER played alot was Elite 2!)

If you like space sims, the ones I mentioned are great -- HARDWAR and the HOMEWORLD series. HARDWAR has been called "Elite on a planet" -- actually one of the mmons of Jupiter, which you are trying to get off of. HOMEWORLD was game of the year around 2000. There are several updates, plus a new one about to come out. There's also the Wing Commander series, which PRIVATEER is a part of. The Wing Commander series are linear games -- just follow the missions through to the end. But PRIVATEER is like an update of ELITE. You can find a link to download PRIVATEER on the off topic forum (I think). The game's 10 years old now! PRIVATEER II is also a fun one -- similar to FREELANCER. You can download it for free too.

Then there are the Egosoft games ... X-BEYOND THE FRONTIER and X-TENSION. Both are a few years old and rather slow play, but great graphics and an ELITE feel to them. A new version is about to come out ... called X-2 or something.

Yeah, Homeworld is a great game,
Homeworld 2 will be out by the end of the month(i think)
just go to www.homeworld2.com and have a look.
