Not where, but HOW to find wrecks??

OK, I have used the wreck list from the home page. I go to the coordinates and...NOTHING. I fight off the local baddies, search the whole area and nothing in the way of a wreck is found. What am I doing wrong??

When somebody tells you where a wreck is, they give you a large sector ... e.g. 4C. You have to fly back and forth in that sector until the wreck shows up on your scanner. (It will appear as white, since it is neutral. Make sure you have "show all" clicked.) It also helps to look at the navmap. The wrecks show up as a red X on the map, if you have passed within scanner range of them. Sometimes it can be a pain in the butt finding them, especially when you hear that "warning -- scanner efficiency effected" message. Some people have posted that they like to fly an X pattern, others a Z or whatever. When you are told say 4C, the wreck might even be just barely within that sector ... right on the edge of it. Wrecks aren't so easy to find, but some can be quite profitable!

As a tip, wrecks are alway in asteroid belts, debris fields, ice clouds etc -- places they are NOT easy to see. Otherwise, someone would have found them before you. Worst of all are wrecks in radiation fields. Then you have to find them while the radiation is eating up our hull and you are using up all of your nanaobots.

Your searcg pattern isnt good enough to pick them up in your hud.

Set a waypoint at one of the corners of the sector that the wreck is in. Set your next waypoint at the corner diagonally opposite the one you just made. Set the third one on one of hte other corners, and a fourth at the corner diagonally opposite that, so your search pattern looks like an X.

Flip your hud display to show all contacts, and then start flying. You'll find em.

PS - also look on your map for a little red X that will mark the spot.

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.

You can zoom in on the navmap, click on the X, then click on the finger to select the wreck. From there it's easy. Shoot it to make it drop stuff.

Some of the wrecks in the wrecks list aren't accurate. Some wrecks are just across the border in the next square. I went through several of them and updated with more precise and corrected coordinates on my list. It saves a whole lot of time when you have coordinates that divide each sector into 10ths.

I tried the suggestions and it worked nicely. I even found a way to pop-in make the grab and pop-out without having to face too many of the local bad guys.

For any newbies: just cruise until you are within 200 K of the wreck. Blast it , hit "B" to grab the loot and then "Shift+W" outta there. You can decided on your destination after you've cruised out of danger.

Of course there are times when it's just fun to rain unholy death on anyone fool enough to engage you....

Almost anywhere in the system is within 200K of the wreck!
