That depends on how advanced you already are. The Friendly Universe mod is useful for that sort of thing, if you can go places where Sabres are near and take on a few Nomads.

There are several other available mods that allow you to make vast sums of money quickly, and the bribes to get in good with whomever you are interested in become chump change.

However, my personal opinion on what mod to use is "None at All." The fun of this particular game is the exploration of the created universe and figuring out how you are supposed to work within it. If you are bashin' and smashin' though to get a Sabre, then you are depriving yourself of a very fun and interesting experience.

There is a sticky thread in the Spoilers forum that lists most of the places where you can bribe the various factions to improve your reputation with them.

I'm not a fan of mods either, well not yet anyway, I want to get the most out of the universe before I try them.

If you want to get in with the hessians, head to the border worlds and blow the hell out of the corsairs for a couple of hours. Do everything you can to wind them up (stick your head of the cockpit and blow raspberries at them)...then when your bordering on neutral/hated, find a hessian base and trade with them. They'll love you after a couple of straightforward trades. Takes me about 2 hours every time I want to get back in with them...they're a pretty fickle bunch of people.

saying, you can get this, at that base, wich is in that system, at these coörds, is a serious spoiler.
Saying, for instance, the Liberty Rogues are enemies of the Liberty Police, is a minor spoiler.
