How do you take the in-game screenshots shown on the homepage, without having all the HUD readouts cluttering the view?

Use paint or a similar thing to cut off the edges... Thats the best i can think of.

You can go to options to make the top part of the HUD vanish, and you can hit backspace to minimize the parts at the bottom of the screen.

Printscreen during cutscenes might do it.
But then again, they're no action pics mostly.

If you fiddle around a bit with the turret cameras (edit the right cockpit in DATA/COCKPITS), you can place the turret cam further from the ship, and you'll get a larger view that way.

Got the turret view sorted, is there any way to stop the target reticule?

Go to turret view "H". .

how do you even take screenshots?

Use the print screen button, screenshots are saved in my documents/my pictures/freelancer shots.

It's a handy way to stuff the modders, i.e. scan them, take a screen shot of equipment with uber stats, and mail it to the admin.

Hi, new to tinkering w/ screenshots. I've got a bunch of shots I like and have given them some smart----d names. I'm wondering how one goes about putting the comic strip 'balloon' on a screenshot w/ text inside it. for funny wallpaper or to share here.
thanks

You will need a drawing package of some kind; I am not up on current drawing packages, so have no idea what would be a good one to use. I dare say someone will educate us.

Hi,
I have got huge forlders of my screenshots of plenty of games, I use a program called Frapps to take them, with fraps you can also take movies. In fraps it saves it to a folder that you decide. then I use Photoshop (even paint works well) to edit it out, croping it or cuting and pasting simmilar backround.

I hate MS paint too. Use PSP or Photo Shop.

The Gimp is quite good too, although it does have a steep learning curve but as open source, it's cheaper than PSP or PS.
