the news monitor in the bar

the news monitor is a nice cosmetic addition to the game, but is the news consistent of events in the current system, and vice versa (i.e. you check out the event after reading the news item) ??

this is what the news board says:
Famous Manhattan Artist Kidnapped
MANHATTAN - In one of their boldest moves yet, the Liberty Rogues have kidnapped famous Sculptor John Frankel. He was discovered missing from his apartment two days ago. This afternoon, a ransom demand was received from his captors insisting that a million credits be left within the Pittsburg Debris field at a specific location, where upon he would be released. Frankel's family fears that the Rogues may kill him even if they do pay the ransom.

so for example is it possible to have the ransom paid then sneak in and steal it?

I think the news items are there just for fun, kinda like the data cubes in Tyrian...kinda adds a little spice and flavor to the game. It'd be neat if it did though

At various times in the story missions, the news monitor will tell about the events you just took part in! But after the story missions end, the news doesn't seem to be related to very much. At the most, you might find out that something is going on a certain system where you can go and make some money.
