Insert User Error.
Hello all.
Ever wonder why your version of a game/mod/map doesnt work when others have no problems at all ?
Most game designers and mod makers could tell you some good stories about players bug reports that could be fixed by deleting the current user and inserting a smarter one.
Often players with a problems take an aggressive attitude when posting reportings about stuff, like it doesnt work or it crashes constantly "insert bad language here". What they dont count on is that their problem is often one they created and all the bad language in the world does hide the fact from experienced players that the guy in question is a total and utter twat.
Especially when somebody quietly points out that the secret is to install the game/mod/map using the method described in the docs.
At which point, having made a complete fool out them selves, they vanish and set about slapping them selves for being such an idiot in so loud a fashion in public. A rather special sort of idiot too. The type other people love calling an idiot to their faces. Not like those polite guys with problems who ask why something happens then get response and say thanks.
It is a fact the freelancer community does have more than its fair share of those types of idiots. Yell first, engage brain later and its another fact we mod makers seem most of them in action.
So whats the secret to running a stable game/mod/map ?
Reading the docs of of course. 85% of all bug reports are caused by a failure to follow instructions. No skin off my nose but those guys suffer for days with a problem, get all worked up and are told its their fault for not reading the docs for 5 or 10 minutes.
5 or 10 minutes verse a week of crashes.
What would you do ?
There is a moral behind this that is as true for all problems you may have with any product no matter where it originated from.
Enaging your mouth before your brain is in gear will not get your problem fixed
