I thought of this while flying to Planet Manhattan

I was flying to planet manhattan while reading Trent's journal when I though of something. You know how in his journal Trent mentions that there are undiscovered planets in the border worlds. Well if there is ever (probably not) a freelancer add-on then you should be able to set up a base on a planet or an orbital space station. Here is how it would work:

Space Station: Outpost (2000 credits), Cargo yard (6000 credits), Shipyard (10000 credits), Freeport (25000 credits). After purchasing a space station you would hire mehanics, bartenders, and try to bring in some merchants. The cargo and ship yard could make you money.

Planet Base: Underground base (2500 credits), manufacturing plant (5000 credits), Science base (6500 credits), settlement (30000 credits). But to first settle on a planet you would have to scan if it would be okay to settle a base. What do you think?

That woulden't be an addon. That would have to re-make the entire Freelancer Engine. That is kinda like playing C&C Renegade, then playing C&C Red Alert 2. It is compleatly different.

Its a good idea, we would like it more if it was the first time its been descused.

good idea, but there are a lot of posts asking or mentioning a new (put your word here) to put in freelancer

little cheap though, i mean an eagle is like 550,000 credits

-Maybe it's the Sidewinder Fang... or the Cardamine, but d*** you look fine-

And, having your own space station wouldn't be very freelancerish...

Yes it would be.

Point of freelancer is to be whatever you want to be.

Nice idea, especially for multiplayer. But multiply the prices with factor 1000.

The ability to rent storage space (for weapons that are not equipped but too useful to sell) and to park several ships would be decent compromise if the designers think that base ownership is not compatible with the concept of a freelancer. A freelancer needs at least half a dozen ships:
- PvP Eagle/Sabre
- money-maker Dromedary
- assorted Patriot/Dagger/Drake for humiliating cocky Titan Livers
- 'utility' Eagle or Falcon for generally farting around (escort noobs ...)
- one 'current' ship to have fun with

@Matrix101:

Welcome to The Lancers Reactor !

It´s a nice idea you have there, but first of all, indeed the entire game (engine) has to be rebuild from the ground up. And secondly, as one of our moderators (Tachyon) nicely put it once, this is Freelancer, not Space Tycoon

MATRIX that is what i REALLY WANTED TOO!!! I thought it would be SO COOL if i could find a planet in the middle of a radiation cloud somewhere surrounded by exploding gas pockets and mines and start my VERY OWN BASE. and u could buy turrets for it and heaps of little modules and equip it with armour plating and use it as a base where u can save it, drop off cargo, go into your very own bar, and store weapons and goodies that youve picked up. ANd u could continually upgrade it again and again and again. -sigh- that would be so good

the ability to buy bases stations etc ,that could lead to domination of the universe
i wonder if that would be a difficult concept to sell to microsoft ;-)

Post Fri Aug 01, 2003 11:27 am

The problem is it would be hard to incorporate into multiplayer. As I mentioned in another thread eeeeeeeeevil clans could dominate certain areas around for example newbie trade routes and shoot anyone coming past. After a while all the space would be used up as people build lots of bases.

I agree that its a good idea for SP though.

EVE online does exactly that, I think... but that's an MMORPG :p

It's a *great* idea though. Maybe a good idea for a mod...?

It is a *great* idea, maybe someone could come up with aa way to buy a storaage depot where you can store all your favourite ships and come back to use them later.
It's a pain in the but having to sell off an uber fighter because you wanna have a go at trading.

Hmm... I wonder if it's possible to get people in bars sell you space stations.

Eg, "For a small contribution of 250000 credits I could get you an Outpost in sector 6C.

... *thinks*
