Tractoring Prob?

OK, i may just missing something really simple here but ,
when i blow someone up, drops loot, symbol appears, press B, tractors OK,
But when i try to tractor something already floating, by targeting it and pressing B or clicking the zig zag line symbol on the top of the target list, all i get is
"Tractor Failure"
What am i doing wrong ? (probly something stupid!)
Is the hold full?
Do i need a second type of tractor beam?
or have i just missed something really simple ?

Your cargo bay is full of that item, usually batteries or nano bots

A ) you're tractoring commodities (oxigen, water and such) while your cargohold is allready full.
B ) You're tractoring ammo while the max ammo (mines, missiles and such)capacity (50) is allready reached.
C ) You're tractoring bats/bots while the max capacity (look in the ship stats) is allready reached.
D ) you're tractoring mission cargo wich you have to distroy, you can't loot that.

These are most likely to be your problem. If not it's a bug. Try reload or reinstall. And if that all doen't help you, ask again in the Technical Isues forum.

Good luck

I don't think I understand what you mean. You can tractor anything that shows up on the loot list (in your hud, cklick the loot icon second from the right) unless one of the above is true.

Cargo is full of something you need to see a treasure chest

i ate a booger so you ate a turd.

When you hit the general tractor button, it automatically sends a tractor beam out to only those things you have room for. Anything it doesn't beam at can't fit on your ship/in your hold. You're probably individually targeting these things.

You can jettison less valuable cargo to suck up something worth more money. Of course, whenever you do this you can bet some enemies will show up and start blasting you ... as you start jabbing keys and trying to get into action in mad panic.

p.s. Need I say one must also be within range of cargo? I think the limit of tractor range is just under 1 km.

Some advice:

Don't jettison cargo in the middle of a battle or when unfriendlies are nearby. Jettsioning cargo drops your shields for a short period of time, so you'll end up taking hull damage and/or wasting shield batteries/nanobots needlessly. Finish the fight first.

My tractor seems to be able to pick up things within 1.5k I think. Not sure. Might check.

How do you jettison anything in space?

Click the item you want to drop in your inventory - a small jettison-icon will appear (looks like a trash can). When you click it you will be asked how many of the item in question you want to jettison. And as mentioned above, it will drop your shields so proceed with caution.

*confirm* 1.5k is correct.

also if you mod your cargo space to be more than it should be, you will NOT be able to tractor in more items than what your storage should be, you can only use it to buy extra cargo, not tractor it in. but you shouldnt be modding anyways, so this aught to be a moot point

thanx, found two spare engines in my hold, not being used, will try to drop them in space, as it will not let you sell them.

Of course you can sell spare enigines... not for much like, but you can sell them... You can sell ANYTHING you an salvage except "Mission" loot.
