may be a noob question but my torps don't seem to be doing as much damage as they imply. how do you launch a torpedo for maximum effectiveness?
I use Starkillers as standard on my thunderbolt. Very nice torps and they are partially guided torps too. Though i believe the info says they are not. Will have to recheck that.
But yer, shoot out the guys shields in a head to head charge then launch the torp before he flies past you. If facing several tough AI's do the same to them. You will win.
If your facing a fleet of battleships and several fighters you can hit the BS's from out side their weapons range with them. However to see that work after finishing the campaign you need to try a mod like Hostile Universe.

I prefer starkiller torpedo's. Sure the Sunslayers do way more damage but sjeesh they are expensive! Plus you have to be friendly with the Bundschu to even GET the Sunslayer torpedo launcer. All in all, I stick to the Starkiller torps for 373 credits per torp. If you give the torpedo an extra speed boost they will do mucho damage too.
When I first played the game I never used them, once, in fact I didn't even pay attention to them at all, although maybe I should have at least for some of the missions with bigger targets (can't say any more lol).
However, in the Rebalance Mod, I found them usefull for the ridiculously strong battleships that were added (even to lower level missions), but later on, after some Uber Weapons that come with the Mod, they become not only pointless but actually a slower way to destroy stations then your guns.
