SciFi games like Freelancer are...

I think the best since variety is only limited by imagination and idiots in corperate offices who want money fast and rush the release and thus limit a game. Also, I was curious... has anyone here played MOO, MOO2 or MOO3?

No, haven't played them.

MOO: Great game (old though)
MOO2: Good sequal, but not as good as the original.
MOO3: Looks good on paper, but really not all that great in the execution (but that's another story).

Space Empires IV: The best R4 game ever developed.

I've only played MOO2 and I found the micromanegmant intreaguing. Does MOO3 get better or is it just a bit of hype? Thinkin about getting MOO3.

Response-The MOO series is about galatic conquest through trade and research agreements, trade and research embargos, deplomacy, political pressure, superior tech, well utalized spies, sabatoage, stealing, framing, cultivation of resources, expansion, exploration, and not to mention combat (ship to ship, ship to planet, ground assault, bombardment, chem and bio weapons, boarding parties, and planet destruction Deathstar style).

I only ever played MOO 2. Due to my youngness and newbieness at the time I refused to play a side other than the science one. It was a great game but I never really got the hang of manual combat...

Besides space combat, like Wing Commander, Privateer and FL, I like turn based, space based 4X (meaning eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) games. The MOO series is one of those but not really anything like FL.

MOO: Great game, excellent replay value.
MOO2: One of the best, I STILL play it every once in a while.
MOO3: Not only fell off the bandwagon but rolled into the sewer. Tried it once, couldn't get through the first game! Found managing tedious, especially from the political side of things. After MOO2 I found MOO3 much less intuitive. I even read the manual instead of continuing my futzing around in the game to see if I was missing something, I wasn't. Still is installed because FL came along.

To stay on the turn based, space based 4X genre, my favorite was Stars!. Extreme micromanaging toward the end but satisfactory in scope. Ironically when over half of the stars are conquered I know I will win and stop playing that game, so I have never actually finished by totally conquering every star system. I just wish the creators would come out with their sequal, Stars Supernova. But they can't get a good licensing deal or something.

Have to look into the Space Empires IV game...

MOO - Civilisation in space, good old times
MOO2 - so the good sequels should be done!
MOO3 - Not only rolled into sewer - it jumped in with grand splash, dived to the bottom and found there a nice, smelly place in the mud. One (or more) step backwards from MOO2.

I'm waiting for Stars!: Supernowa also...

Exactly why is MOO3 bad? I love games that require skill and very little luck. (I kick arse in a Drake). I hear that you can do ANYthing but not EVERYthing meaning you run the show but the tiny runnings of an empire are taken by an AI. Also, I read that if desired a player could do all the minute details themselves. Is the game interface so huge that getting a hang for the game comes only after bumbling around a bit? Cause Hearts of Iorn (WWII) was like this and I found it to be a ** game out of *****. It would have been better if I was able to lead in the battlefield and use tactics (thus the graphics were non-existant).
