Change your windows locale to english in control panel and install the game again, it should install it in english this time.

I don't think there's a simple patch to change the language, as it would be a few hundred megs big..

So I guess you're stuck with your german edition.

The euro CD should have all the standard languages, thats why it took longer to come out here. So changing the locale should install a different language depending on the language linked to your locale.

Can't check as I got a US import, so only has english.

Well, it seems I am stuck with the german version.
I checked the cabinet files on the CD, and all the voices seem to be in german.

Unless somebody has another idea?
It seems there are about 1700 files in question....

and you cant change the language
theres only german files in a german version and only french files in a french vrersion

Just checked.....
Within the game folder, theres an audio folder. And within that a dialogue folder.
And that one is only 11,5 MB in size....

I don't know about legality here, but maybe someone could zip that specific folder and mail it?
Written text would still be in german/french respectively, but at least the voices would be english.

I'd love to find the German version, just for the hell of it. I can imagine Trent's Bretonian accent this time! Is the game otherwise the same, except for the language? (Don't know how Germans would take to being the "heavies" in yet another game.)


p.s. Wonder who did the translation? I've done translation (not German/English though) -- and it can be tough. Languages often don't translate directly. Sounds like Seitenwaffen was an eff up by someone who isn't a native speaker and just guessed. (My mother is bi-lingual English/German, but her family's dialect is hardly standard. I learnt a lot of words that make most Germans look at me strangely.)

Thats basically why I want the english version. There is no accent anymore.
And in german there is - I guess you know - a difference between "du" and "sie", whereas in english, there is only "you".

Can you imagine Trent and Tobias using "sie" with each other?

Translations can be tough, I know, but any KLUTZ can do better than that.

Same with quite a few movies and TV-series, btw.

I suppose MS figured the Germans could accept being the baddies, since it finally turns out that they really weren't anyway. If they made the Kusari the villains, there would have been cries of racism and "we are victims" again.


Would have been fun in MS had made Liberty the heavies. The Bush gummint probably would have started its court cases against Microsoft all over again!

Just borrow your friends CD and install it from his, You DO own a liscence for the game so it should be legal.

Might just do that. Borrow the CD, that is. Problem is, he lives some 600km elsewhere. Oh well.

Lol, germans usually are the baddies anyway. There was this "Die Hard" Movie. In the original, the terrorists are german. In the german version, they were "scandinavian", iirc.

Maybe he can zip the apropriate files and mail them.
