Freelancer Update Needed

freelancer was definitly rushed out the proverbial door, as I had an old GeForce 2 MX 400, and FL looked half decent, but now that I own a GeForce FX (5) 5600, not only does FL give me a "do you want to procede even though FL doesn't recognize your graphics card,.." dialog box, but everything looks the SAME. Where are the programmable shaders, optimization, a 50 buck game in 2003 should utilize technology that has existed since 2001, I have yet to see ac game that uses the newest cards for anything but their enhanced clockspeed. COME ON!

Really? Try Doom 3. Or how about Half-Life 2. But that's beside the point; the reason you don't see as many (you still see a few) games that utilize the newest technology is because not everyone has the newest technology. If every game out there required, oh say, a Geforce 4 as a minimum, how many gamers do you think would be able to play it? Maybe, 50%? Even that's stretching it. But even if 50% were able to play it, that results in half the games sold, and half the profit. And game companies want profit. So there you have it. Freelancer was made to make money, soit is accessible to older PCs, as well.
