FREELANCER in 3D

i have heard alot of people talking about FREELANCER in 3D and i have looked at that site but it looks confusing and i wanted to know if i should get it and what its all about

I haven't tried this particular 3d product, but I still wouldn't suggest buying it. I've tried other devices similar to it (for other games) and have found that they just make things more confusing. My two cents: stick with what you've got now.

Regular Eyes

How does this thing work? Do they send two identical images at you with different color tones, then your glasses decode the tone for your eye? I don't get how it's suppose to look 3D from a game made to be displayed 2D.

Any wish to enlighten me?

Most 3D glasses work in the following manner:

A special video card driver switches the image being displayed on your monitor from the "left eye perspective" to the "right eye perspective" about 30 times per second.

The glasses have LCD panels in them that blanks out one side then the other also at the same rate as the view-switching on your monitor, so your right eye sees only the right-eye perspective images while your left eye sees only the left-eye perspective images.

That's how an illusion of depth is achieved with those 3D glasses. Problem is some people get headaches from that; some people say it's only because the distance between the lenses do not match the distance between one's eyes but I don't think that's the only reason.

Personally I tried it before and I'm not impressed. You gotta make up your own mind though..

I suppose you could hook up your computer to a projector and display it on the wall. Imagine sitting in a dark room with the whole wall the Freelancer universe. Probably wouldn't look that good if enlarged that much though.

I've used the glasses in Freelancer, and wasn't impressed. Mind you, I've never been able to get satisfactory results out of the E-dimensional glasses. I've spent way too many hours trying to adjust the settings, and never could get rid of the ghost images while maintaining perspective. Their use in Freelancer was more of the same. I did get 3D perspective, with ghosts. Even so, it was good enough to note that there just isn't enough content to make it all worth the hassle. Aside from the tradelane rings and other stationary objects, there's nothing to see. It doesn't appear to help you at with moving objects, as the ships rarely remain at a distance where you can appreciate their 3d nature.

I took my freelancer disc over to a mates house who has a projector with a 100" (diagonal) screen.

Turned out the lights, feed the sound through the stereo, filled the fridge with beer and strapped myself in......

Woohoo.....gotta get myself one.....

Havent tried freelancer with 3d goggles, but after that i dont think i'll bother

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.
